Jess Jones continues to be the player everyone is talking about in North Wales women’s football.
The 17-year-old hotshot added another four goals to her ever-increasing haul in Sunday’s derby win over Amlwch at Cae Bob Parry.
Affectionately known as Baby Jess, the Gwalchmai Goalden Girl finds the net like the most experienced of strikers.
Sunday’s quartet took the teen’s total to 20 goals this season, having found the net in every one of her eight matches played so far.
Although Llangefni made it back-to-back wins over Amlwch, having lost the first four meetings between the sides, Dan Gregg’s team did not have it all their own way in this latest thriller.
At one stage in the second half, it stood at 4-3 after a strong Amlwch fightback from 4-1 down, but two late strikes got North Wales West leaders Cefni over the line.
The hosts struck first, Ellie Coulson netting in the 11th minute from a Jen Cox set-up, then with 20 gone, Jess Jones opened her account, Megan Summers-Jones assisting.
Emma Roberts replied for Amlwch on 37 minutes, but Jess Jones made it 3-1 close to the interval.
When Jones completed a hat-trick for Llangefni on 51 minutes, it hinted a home win was done and dusted, but an Amlwch side without chief playmaker Cerys Gadd hit back with goals after 58 and 66 from Shannon Thomas and Mia Roberts, Emma Roberts with the assists.
Midway through the second half, Llangefni 4 Amlwch 3 – game on!
Llangefni’s determination to secure another three points served them well, though, Coulson making it 5-3 on 75 minutes before Jess Jones put away her fourth – and 20th of a season still in its relative infancy – in added time.
