Departing Prestatyn Town boss Chris Jones can feel proud of his stint as manager

After a grim period in the club’s history Chris Jones stabilised Prestatyn Town last season to finish sixth in the Cymru North

Prestatyn Town have parted company with manager Chris Jones.

The Seasiders have produced some fine results this season, including a 4-1 win at Bangor 1876 in the Cymru North, where Town currently lie 13th after back-to-back defeats.

Prestatyn have also knocked Flint Town United out of the Nathaniel MG Cup and triumphed 4-1 at Gresford Athletic in the WBS League Cup.

Jones took over at Bastion Gardens in May 2022 after a grim period in the club’s proud history and his first season in charge was highly encouraging.

Not only did the three-time Tier 2 champions finish sixth in the table – a vast improvement on the previous campaign where they narrowly avoided relegation – they also celebrated Dan Atkins being named Cymru North Young Player of the Season and joint Golden Boot winner with Holywell Town’s David Forbes.

This season had not started as well, but was by no means a lost cause.

Jones was in charge of Prestatyn for 37 league matches, winning 16, drawing 5 and losing 16.

In a short statement put out today, Prestatyn Town said: “Today, the club have relieved Chris Jones of his duties as manager.

“Chairman Jamie Welsh would like to place on record his thanks to Chris for all his hard work and wish him the best for the future.”

Jones said on social media: “Disappointed with the decision but we haven’t had the start we hoped for after finishing top 6 last season.

Grateful for all the support I’ve had from some amazing people behind the scenes and supporters who’ve followed the club for decades. Memories to last a lifetime.”

Jones is a former boss of 2020-21 Cheshire League Division One champions AFC Knowsley and Bootle Under-21’s.
