Relief for all the North Wales football family – a player whose serious injury caused a Welsh Cup tie to be abandoned at the weekend is not as badly hurt as first feared.
The second qualifying round tie between Flint Mountain and Kinmel Bay was called off following a head injury sustained by home player Calyn Spencer. Mountain led 3-0 when the game was halted on 55 minutes.
Flint Mountain released the following statement today: “On Saturday, our JD Welsh Cup clash against Kinmel Bay was sadly abandoned following a head injury sustained by Flint Mountain player Calyn Spencer.
“Calyn was knocked unconscious by the incident and was immediately tended to by Mountain physio Cerys Eccleston, supported by members of the Kinmel Bay management team.
“His condition meant it was impossible to continue the game at that stage and the correct decision was made by the referee to abandon the game. An ambulance was called and Calyn was taken to hospital.
“Thankfully, Calyn was released from hospital late Saturday night and miraculously, suffered no broken bones or other lasting damage. He will now recover at home.
“Flint Mountain Football Club would like to place on record our sincere thanks to the Kinmel Bay management team for their help, care, and support for Calyn until the arrival of the ambulance.
“We would also like thank Events Medical Team, who dropped everything to come to assist.”
The FAW have now confirmed that the rescheduled game will take place on Friday 25th August at the Essity Stadium, with kick off 19:45.
