North Wales Coast West League Division One

Holyhead Town 2 (Queen 50 & 88 pen)
Llangoed 1 (Owen 78)

Callum Queen made it three goals in as many games after his 88th minute penalty clinched Holyhead Town their third win in a row since the start of the 2023-24 season.

The 17-year-old was singled out as one to watch in tier 5 this term before a competitive ball was kicked and he is certainly repaying the faith shown in him.

For their second league game of the season, the Harbourmen welcomed Llangoed to a very windy Millbank.

Holyhead were against the wind in the first half and defended well as a team to frustrate Llangoed into taking speculative long shots for most of the opening 45.

Llangoed did create a couple of decent chances but keeper Andy Hill made good saves to keep them out.

Town carved out some opportunities on counter attacks and had openings to score themselves, but at half time the score was 0-0.

The second half saw Town with the advantage of the wind and they took the game to Llangoed.

Chances were made and the hosts were finally rewarded when Llangoed keeper Anthony Williams was unable to keep out a 50th minute lobbed effort from Queen, assisted by Matty Rowlands.

The goal fired up Llangoed and they rallied strongly. They were rewarded with a good goal on 78 minutes from Matty Owen after a mix up in the home defence.

This created a sense of urgency from all the Town players and after a sustained period of pressure, they were awarded a penalty after Andy Will was dragged down in the box. Queen slotted home, sending the keeper the wrong way with just a few minutes left.

The Holyhead Town players kept their nerve and saw the game out without being under any pressure to secure a well-deserved and hard-earned three points.
