CPD Y Rhyl 1879 women seek new manager after Cassie Thomas steps down

Cassie Thomas

CPD Y Rhyl 1879 women are searching for a new manager to replace Cassie Thomas, who has stepped down from the role.

Today Cassie announced her difficult decision to step away from the game to concentrate on her young family.

Chairman Tom Jamieson said: “I would personally like to thank Cassie for her hard work and dedication to the role

“During her three years at the club we have seen phenomenal success, securing promotion to tier 2 of Welsh women’s football. Cassie will be sadly missed by all at CPD Y Rhyl 1879.

“In readiness for the start of the 2023-24 season in September, we will take the opportunity to secure a successor to Cassie to follow on from the great work achieved.”

Cassle, 33, has not only been a key figure in CPD Y Rhyl 1879’s rise to success, which included winning the North Wales Women’s League title as an unbeaten team in 2021-22, she was also an important part of predecessor clubs Rhyl and Prestatyn Ladies and Rhyl FC Ladies’ Welsh Premier Women’s League adventure, which lasted from 2014-15 to 2018-19.

In their final season at that level, Cassie was player-manager.

The 2019-20 campaign saw Cassie become assistant-manager to Sara Hilton at newly-formed Connah’s Quay Nomads ladies.

The Deesiders finished runners-up in North Wales League Division Two, going unbeaten in a season curtailed due to Covid, and reached the Welsh Cup semi-finals.

With the entire 2020-21 season cancelled, the same reason the previous one ended prematurely, Cassie joined the new CPD Y Rhyl 1879 management team in 2021, working alongside Joy Jamieson and Darren Wardle. She later became manager/head coach.

Cassie returned to playing football towards the end of the season, helping 1879 be crowned North Wales Women’s League champions without losing a single match.

A B-licence holder, Cassie has also coached in the United States, as well as being in charge of an under-14 team.

As a player, Cassie also represented Kinmel Bay and Tranmere Rovers before joining Rhyl.

Her contribution to women’s football in North Wales has been immense.

CPD Y Rhyl 1879 women will begin their second season in the tier 2 Genero Adran North next month with a visit to CPD Merched Bangor on September 3.

If you are interested in applying for the CPD Y Rhyl 1879 women’s team manager’s role, please send your footballing CV with a covering letter outlining your suitability for the role to Tom Jamieson, Chairman CPD Y Rhyl 1879 at Tomjamieson@rhylfc.co.uk
