Liverpool FC infuriate Colwyn Bay fans after late cancellation of pre-season glamour friendly

Liverpool FC have come under fire for cancelling a money-spinning friendly against Colwyn Bay FC at short notice.

The Anfield Reds were due to send an under-21 side to the 4 Crosses Construction Arena this Saturday, but yesterday newly-promoted Cymru Premier League club Bay announced the English Premier League giants had pulled out,

A statement on the North Wales club’s website said: “Unfortunately Saturday’s friendly against Liverpool Under-21s has been cancelled due to circumstances beyond our control.

“Liverpool have informed us that a number of their Under-21 players have been called up to the senior team.

“Details on refunds will be given shortly but we understand how disappointed fans will be that the game has been cancelled.”

The news has evoked an angry reaction from some Seagulls fans, many of whom had bought tickets for the game, which went on sale earlier this week.

Less than happy followers of Bay and other clubs took to Twitter with their thoughts.

Arwel Clwyd Jones Tweeted: “Absolutely disgraceful of @LFC to let another club down like this at such short notice. Tickets printed and sold. Shocking disregard for young supporters as well.”

Andyj wrote: “Pure arrogance”, while Derrick Orme said: “It really is disgraceful! Not keen on Liverpool FC anyway, even less now. Arrogant!”

William Callaghan Tweeted: “Liverpool fan but that is a joke, surely we’ve got more than enough players to fulfil the fixture, disappointed for you guys.”

And Jonny Williams added: “Surely they have enough players at the club!!”

Bay are now seeking new opponents for this Saturday.

Liverpool FC have been contacted for comment.
