Triumphant trio stay in charge for CPD Merched Bangor’s big new challenge in 2023-24

Aron Griffith (back row, furthest left), Lois Regan (back row, second right in dark coat) and Andrew “Lefty” Wright (front row – furthest left) will remain in charge of CPD Merched Bangor this season

The management trio which led CPD Merched Bangor to the North Wales Women’s League title last season will remain in charge for the team’s new challenge at a higher level.

Grassroots North Wales – Tier 3 Women’s Football Manager of the Year Aron Griffith, Lois Regan and Andrew Wright, better known as Lefty, will once again lead the first team and under-19’s in 2023-24.

This season will see Bangor compete in the Tier 2 Genero Adran North League, where the likes of Connah’s Quay Nomads, Llandudno and CPD Y Rhyl 1879 will provide the opposition.

Looking towards exciting new adventures ahead, as well as being delighted to announce a sponsorship deal with City Energy, and City Training as first team shirt sponsor, speaking on behalf of the management team, Aron said: “On the back of a very successful 2022-23 season, we don’t underestimate the step up to Tier 2 football.

“It’s great that the three of us are staying together and committing to quite an amazing project at CPDM Bangor. We’ve also got Merv (Williams) on board as our goalkeeping coach, but more to follow on this.

“We’ve retained the majority of players with two or three leaving to study in University.

“We’ll be continuing with our model of one squad for under-19’s and first team whereby the younger players are being given the opportunity to develop with the more experienced ones.

“As our under-19’s develop and if they meet the standard, they will be given the opportunity to play first team football under a managed progression. It worked well last season, and we don’t see any reason to change this approach.

“The hard work of preparing for the season is going ahead in the background with some new faces turning up for training and all the players working hard.”
