How many of the 36 North West/Central and North East Wales ties pulled out of the hat in last week’s ‘dummy’ Welsh Cup draw reappeared in the draw proper tonight?
The answer is two – Menai Bridge Tigers v Barmouth and Dyffryn and Mochdre Sports v Llanfairfechan Town.
It’s a question many have asked tonight, so I just thought I’d find out the answer, purely for curiosity sake.
Last week’s trial run was organised in anticipation of a busy Monday night ahead for FAW admin.
Unfortunately, gremlins in the works meant the entire Welsh Cup ‘dummy’ draw appeared on COMET/Cymru Football App.
Some clubs took the line-ups as legitimate and published details of their ties.
Unfortunately, it later emerged that those ties seen had no bearing on the ones to be drawn on Monday night. It was purely down to an unintentional error that the first ‘practice’ version was seen published.
Tonight’s draw proper went well with all the FAW Welsh Cup first qualifying round ties drawn live on the RedWall+ app and later shown on the FAW website.
To have two duplicate ties for the North Wales area was purely coincidental and could happen in any circumstances.
The FAW should actually be praised for involving clubs at lower levels in a live draw situation.
This is the type of increased grassroots football involvement in FAW events which would be nice to see more of.
Last season Sgorio filmed some tier 4 and 5 cup finals as well as early round matches in the major competitions. Again, good to see.
