Nostalgia: Can you provide the names of this Mostyn YMCA team from yesteryear?

A Mostyn YMCA line up from the late 1960’s/early 70’s. Can you name any of the players? Just look at the size of that shield!

Nothing better than a bit of football nostalgia – especially out of season.

Steve Rastin will be a familiar name to many of you who follow the live music scene along the North Wales coast and beyond.

Steve is an absolute guru of the music promotion world, but one of his other great loves is football.

A talented writer who for many years compiled a music column for local newspaper the Rhyl Journal, Steve also covered sport for the paper on occasion, one of his finest pieces being an interview with former England World Cup squad member from 1966, the late Gerry Byrne.

Steve has contacted us with a vintage photo of Mostyn YMCA FC dating from the later 1960’s/early 70’s.

Incidentially, Mostyn YMCA are second on the all-time list of most NWCFA Junior Cup wins, having lifted the trophy six times with only Menai Bridge Tigers ahead of them (8).

Steve writes: “My uncle, John Roberts AKA John the Farm, is third left, back row and the goalkeeper is Bob Jones who taught at Bryn Garth CP in Penyffordd – I’d love to put names to the other faces though.”

Can you help? It’s an excellent quality photo, the faces so clear, so we must have a fair to middling chance of getting some (and hopefully all) of these players identified.

Contact dave@nwsport.co.uk if you can help

Thank you very much – and thank you to Steve for getting in touch.
