The great Mark Hughes will surely be raising a glass or two with the news his home village Ruabon’s football team has clinched promotion today.

Hughes, the Manchester United and Wales legend and current manager of Bradford City, is also president of North East Wales League Championship division side Ruabon Rovers.

The Wrexham-area club are enjoying a fantastic debut season on the field, and today received a massive boost off it with confirmation their ground has passed the inspection enabling them to be promoted to tier 4 next season.

Ruabon are chasing a treble, with six points from their final three games certain to secure them the Championship title. They cemented a top-two promotion spot with a 5-1 victory at Acton on Tuesday.

Rovers have also reached the Two Counties Cup Final, where they will take on CPD Gronant at Rhydymwyn FC this Friday, May 12, 7.15 pm, as well as the Horace Wynne Cup Final, where FC Queen’s Park await on May 19.

Ruabon have scored 193 goals across 37 games in all competitions this season – 110 of those in 19 matches since the turn of 2023.

Their dynamic duo up front of Andrew Swarbrick and Conner Kendrick have amassed 95 goals between them.

Ruabon have just released the following statement: “The Rovers have been successful in our ground inspection.

“This news, paired with last night’s win, means that Ruabon at a minimum have secured a top two finish. We will be promoted to Tier 4 for the 2023/24 season.

“An amazing success for our side. The pressure doesn’t ease here as the target now changes to winning the league outright in the final 3 games.”
