ERYRI CONSULTING NORTH WALES COAST WEST LEAGUE – MARCH 26

Division One

Holyhead Town 0 Trearddur Bay 15

The main story from Saturday’s match at Millbank was the double hat-trick for Trearddur’s Asa Thomas which ensured he broke the long-standing North Wales coast goal-scoring record of the late Tommy Welsh.

With his fourth, Asa equalled Mr Welsh’s all-time highest 631 career goals.

His fifth ensured he set a new best and the 31-year-old phenomenon ended the game on 633.

While the 15-0 win was great for Trearddur in their quest to win the North Wales Coast West Division One title, it was sad to see a club with such a distinguished past as Holyhead Town beaten by such a score.

It is pleasing to still see the name continue in island football and one hopes their fortunes improve.

It took a while for Trearddur to get into their rhythm but on 13 minutes they found their groove.

Ex-Town striker Kaine Bentley beat his man and fired the ball across the Town goal where it was cruelly turned into his own net by home defender Ryan Davies.

By half time it was 8-0, Asa Thomas (3), right-back Casey Gregg, Sol Williams, Joe Donovan and Bentley sharing the goals.

Early in the second half, a deadly finish from Thomas meant he equalled the record of 631.

Daniel Mcginness, the only member of the first team squad without a goal this season, put that right in some style with a magnificent 25-yard strike to make it 10-0.

Thomas added two more to reach six on the day and 51 across all competitions for the season.

An in-swinging corner on 80 minutes by Michael Edwards beat everyone and found its way into the net, making it unlucky 13 for the Harbourmen.

Sixteen-year-old youth graduate Noel Owen then scored his first senior goal for the club with a rifled finish from a Tom Scott assist.

The drama continued in the dying minutes when Michael Edwards was shown a second yellow in quick succession for dissent in the only negative of the game from the visitors point of view.

Thomas completed his unbelievable day when he found Scott in the box with a low ball that the veteran midfielder tapped in.

Bay are now 11 points clear at the summit and are top-scorers in league football across North Wales with 105 goals.

Arriva 5 CPD Gaerwen 0

A first win in nine matches for Arriva and a very good one at that.

Without a victory since last October, the Busmen lacked consistency in the first half and only had a Matthew Parry goal to show for their efforts.

Changes were made by the hosts for the second half, and all came good.

Luke Snape, Luis Chico Teles, Liam Roberts, set up by Ryan Roberts, and finally a screamer from club captain Dylan Jones sealed a 5-0 triumph.

After their early-season struggles Llannerchymedd are beginning to fly.

Saturday brought their third win on the bounce, which lifted them up to 10th in the 15-team Premier table.

The previous weekend, Medd had won 3-2 at Penrhyndeudraeth, but at home against the same opponents, the final score was much more emphatic.

Jordan Taylor, Hywel Jones and Karl Ashworth all netted two apiece for the hosts, who led 2-1 at half time.

Gwion Davies scored for Penrhyn, who had earlier missed a penalty taken by Reece Evans.

CPD Nefyn United 2 Amlwch Town 1

Arwel Huws and Ifan Gwilym both netted in the first half for Nefyn, who edged a narrow win over their Anglesey visitors.

Jordan Edney had equalised with a penalty for Amlwch, also in the opening period.
