Llandudno Amateurs have boosted their squad for the end-of-season run-in by adding two town legends to the ranks.

Former Llandudno FC greats Danny Hughes and Lee Thomas have both joined Carl Nichols and Gaz Sharp’s tier 5 North Wales Coast East Division One high flyers.

Hughes, 34, retired at the end of last season due to a new business and family responsibilities after a dazzling career which saw him captain Llandudno and Rhyl FC, representing those clubs in the Welsh Premier League and Cymru Alliance.

Renowned for his stunning long-range net-busters and dynamic midfield engine, he netted Llandudno’s only goal in Europe in the 2016-17 the Europa League Play Off versus IFK Goteborg of Sweden..

Nichols and Sharp said: “We already know that Danny won’t be available all the time due to his commitments, but when / if available his class, experience and leadership will be extremely valuable for the rest of our squad.”

Thomas, 39, also hung up his boots last season because of work and family duties, but fancied coming out of retirement to play games when he can.

Nichols and Sharp added: “We know he won’t be available to play games all the time but to have his experience and quality around the lads during this business end of the season will be superb for the squad.

Thomas, nicknamed Krusty, starred for Llandudno FC in their Welsh Premier League days from 2015-19 and featured in the aforementioned Europa League clash with Goteborg.

He first signed for Llandudno in 2004 and was granted a special testimonial match against Caernarfon Town in 2017. Krusty later had stints with Llandudno Albion and Conwy Borough before returning to Llandudno FC.
