REPORTS – FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 17

JD CYMRU PREMIER PLAY-OFF CONFERENCE

Airbus UK Broughton 0
Caernarfon Town 2 (Hughes pen 67, Faux 74)

Rob Hughes put Caernarfon ahead

Two second-half goals ensured Caernarfon made it back-to-back wins in phase two of the Cymru Premier season.

The Canaries went four points clear at the Play-Off Conference summit after recording a third victory over the Wingmakers in 2022-23.

Huw Griffiths’ team had a couple of close calls in the first half, Sion Bradley breaking into the box from the right and squaring for Josef Faux, whose shot was well blocked by Sean Wilson.

Darren Thomas’ right-foot strike was also smothered by the home defence and although Bradley netted from the rebound he was adjudged offside.

Caernarfon became more of a danger in attack after the break.

Noah Edwards crashed a 20-yard volley against the bar and a Bradley free kick was superbly tipped over by Lewis Dutton.

The breakthrough finally came on 67 minutes. Wilson barged over Bradley in the box and Rob Hughes sent Dutton the wrong way from the spot.

Seven minutes later Iwan Cartwright overlapped down the left and fed the ball inside for Faux, whose right-foot rocket gave the keeper no chance.

Airbus did produce a couple of late efforts, Jake Phillips curling a long-range shot just wide before debutant keeper Ryan Woods performed marvels to keep out Lloyd Dean’s powerful strike on the turn.

JD CYMRU NORTH

Buckley Town 0
Holywell Town 2 (Forbes 12, Z Edwards 15)

Report: Steve Roberts

Holywell’s 18th league win in succession moved them back to within nine points of leaders Colwyn Bay with a game in hand.

Friday’s 2-0 success at The Globe was an outstanding result for Johnny Haseldin’s men in one of the tougher fixtures on the schedule.

Early pressure from the Wellmen could easily have earned them a couple of penalties before they took a 12th minute lead.

Inside the box, Danny Andrews controlled and laid the ball off to Dave Forbes who fired home his 22nd goal of the season.

Moments later, Town had doubled their lead. Another great move saw the ball end up at the feet of Zebb Edwards, whose deflected effort flew past keeper Ryan Goldston.

Buckley thought they had pulled one back close to the break, but the referee ruled there had been an infringement in the build-up.

In the early stages of the second half, Morgan Murray shot just wide before Andrews’ free kick was well saved by Goldston.

Buckley tried to throw everything at the visitors, but the away defence stood firm.

Cefn Druids 3

Liam Morris put Bangor in front on 73 minutes, but Gerwyn Roberts levelled after 80.

Home defender Kian Owen was red carded in added time for a foul which led to a spot-kick which Jones converted calmly.
