Sixteen games, 16 wins and getting ever closer to what appears to be a successful bid for the league title.

Table-toppers Bangor 1876 faced perhaps their toughest test of the season today when they travelled to second-place NFA.

The visitors went a goal down to an early penalty at Ffordd Derwen, Rhyl, but were level by half time and then rejoiced after 17-year-old Alaw Rowlandson delivered the winner in the second stanza.

NFA took an eighth-minute lead through a very unfortunate penalty decision, where an awkward bounce hit a defender’s arm and the kick was converted by Amy Webster with great aplomb.

Bangor’s equaliser unsurprisingly came from all-action superwoman Jenna Allsup, who broke through several defenders from deep midfield and finished tidily from the edge of the box for her 10th goal of the season.

The winner came on 58 minutes through youngster Rowlandson, making just her third senior appearance for 1876.

The former Penrhyn Bay junior ran onto a wonderful diagonal pass from left back Ffion Bee, and drilled a right-footed shot home across the goalkeeper – a truly exceptional finish from the talented teenager.

Bangor 1876 keeper Becca Elliott barks out the orders

Bangor 1876 manager Aron Griffith said after the game: “Mega proud today – what a game of football! Both teams going for it and giving everything.

“We knew it was going to be a tough game before we arrived and we had to be on our game from the start, but we came out on top with the three points, Had some amazing chances and played brilliant football at times.

“Each week the girls give us the coaching staff a boost with the intensity they provide and today didn’t disappoint.

“I don’t give them enough credit each week, but every one of them has an amazing effect on each other and work as a team. Also to win 16 straight games is a massive achievement.”

Tesni Hughes delivered a magical hat-trick to ensure Amlwch celebrated the victory that put them sixth in the table.

This league encounter at Lon Bach saw a slow start by both teams with the hosts creating a couple of half-chances but unable to finish them off.

After catching Amlwch offside on a couple of occasions, Llanfairfechan’s high line was eventually beaten as captain Carol Lewis slid through Hughes who finished well.

Amlwch’s lead was short-lived as ex-Town player, Ceri Slaney, smashed in a long distance special.

The hosts came out for the second half determined to improve their finishing. The stubborn Llanfeirfechan defence was eventually breached again midway through the second half and it was Cerys Gadd this time who released Hughes to finish nicely.

Tesni signed off yet another hat-trick a few minutes later.

This was soon followed by a Gadd shot fumbled by the opposition keeper and the ball was adjudged to have crossed the line.

Amlwch were glad to get a win on the board over a very determined Llanfairfechan side.

Llangefni Town 5 Flint Town United 0

Ffion Thomas (blue) struck twice for Llangefni

Jen Cox knocked in her fourth hat-trick of the season as Llangefni hit the heady heights of third place in the North Wales Women’s League.

This was a fourth win in five matches for Cefni, who completed a double over Flint having triumphed 4-0 at the Essity Stadium three weeks earlier.

Cox broke the deadlock on 11 minutes, the assist provided by Ffion Thomas, who then scored the second herself after 38, captain Nia Ginnelly setting her up.

Just before the hour, the skipper assisted again as Cox made it 3-0.

And three minutes later Cox netted to complete a treble which puts her on 19 goals for the season.

Ffion Thomas continued her fine record from the penalty spot when she converted from 12 yards in the 78th minute to make it nine goals this term,

Anglesey visitors Bay hit back from two goals down to snatch a point.

Brygida Gorecka put the Hall in front on 18 minutes and Daisy Allen doubled the advantage after 31.

The second half saw a Trearddur fightback, Gail Manning finishing from a Sarah Flower assist on 59 minutes.

Gorecka was red-carded on 79 and the hosts suffered further four minutes from time when Gemma Thomas set up Ashleigh Jones for the equaliser.
