Evergreen Michael Wilde added two more goals to his Cymru Premier League collection in tonight’s 3-0 win for Connah’s Quay Nomads against Aberystwyth Town.
Wilde, 39, moved up to 229 in the all-time national league scorers list, making him third overall behind Rhys Griffiths (272) and Marc Lloyd Williams (319).
Former Chester and Fleetwood Town striker Wilde has netted 153 CPL goals for The New Saints,14 for Flint Town United and is currently on 62 for the Nomads.
Tonight’s clash at Deeside Stadium saw Neil Gibson’s side take a sixth-minute lead when Harry Franklin headed home a Danny Holmes cross from the right.
It was a bullet-type effort from Franklin against his former club.
Nomads had two other George Horan strikes cleared off the goal-line before the break.
Aber keeper Lewis Webb kept his team in the game with two fine stops to deny sub Mike Hayes in the second half.
It was not until the 89th minute that the Quay struck again, Wilde rising majestically to head down a Holmes delivery and the officials decided the ball had crossed the line before being cleared.
In added time, Hayes drilled across the six-yard box from wide and arriving at the back post was Wilde, whose shot was again adjudged to have gone over the goal-line despite the best attempts of Aber to keep it out.
