Six CPD Y Rhyl 1879 players will begin bans of between four to six matches this weekend following an FAW investigation into the club’s stormy Ardal North West match against Bangor 1876 at Belle Vue on October 22.

The longest suspension is imposed on Alex Jones, who is out for six more matches. Jones has already served a three-game ban after being shown a red card near the end of the North Wales coast derby, which finished 2-1 to the Bangor side.

Suspended for five games are 1879’s Leon Atkins and Jordan Worthington, while banned for four matches are James Jones, Casey Faulkner and Elliott Evans.

News of the punishments have been published in the FAW’s weekly suspensions report.

An FAW spokesman confirmed the decisions, all in relation to incidents during or after the game against Bangor, were made at an earlier date and as the appeal deadline has passed, the penalties kicked in from December 15.

Following the October 22 game, Rhyl 1879’s Miles Todd, Aaron White, Jack Higgins and Alex Jones, plus 1876’s Corey Jones and Tomos Clarke, were all suspended for three matches after being shown red cards. 1879 manager Gareth Thomas was ordered from the bench in the second half for alleged dissent and picked up a two-game ban.

The match, the first ever between 1879 and 1876, who were formed in 2020 and 2019 respectively, erupted close to and then following the final whistle with several players involved in an unsightly free-for-all.
