RHYL AND DISTRICT SUNDAY FOOTBALL LEAGUE – REPORT, NOVEMBER 27

Just the one match played again today due to a referee shortage.

It is believed two new refs have been recruited to operate in the league for the new year.

Rhyl Celtics 1 (Lally)

Conwy Comrades 7 (Lloyd, Cory, Carey 2, Davies, Pattinson, McIlvogue)

Unbeaten Comrades rounded off their 2022 set of matches by making it six straight victories with a convincing performance in Rhyl.

The first 35 minutes were pretty much a stalemate with chances at both ends. Conwy hit the woodwork twice but could not break the deadlock.

Comrades’ opening goal came just before the 40th minute when a low-driven shot hit the back of the net via the boot of Harri Lloyd.

That made it 1-0 at half time, but the Celtics were doing well and still in the contest.

However, enforced player changes for the second half had a negative effect on the home team’s performance.

Conwy capitalised and took total control.

It became 2-0 minutes into the second half when some great team play from Kai Davies played in James Cory to slot home.

And a third soon followed when a delicious ball in from Dan Williams was thrusted home by Joe Carey – certainly a different way to finish.

Conwy kept up the pressure and a quickfire double from Kai Davies and Carey, the latter with an effort into the top corner, made it 5-0.

Goal of the day Conwy’s sixth saw Ian Pattinson pick up the ball some 25-30 yards out and smash it home just under the crossbar.

Rhyl Celtics continued at times to cause problems in attack and were rewarded with a Kyle Lally goal to make it 6-1.

The seventh and final Conwy goal was another well-worked team effort. Dan Williams crossed into the box to find an on rushing Ryan McIlvogue to head home.

No games until the new year now as the league pauses for the winter break.
