Friday night catch-up: Menai Bridge Tigers v CPD Llanberis

Dion Owen equalised for Llanberis from the penalty spot

NORTH WALES COAST WEST PREMIER DIVISION – NOVEMBER 11, 2022

Menai Bridge Tigers 2 (O Roberts 31, Clayton 36)
Llanberis 3 (Rowlands OG 9, D Owen pen 72, T Owen 82)

A tough defeat to take for the Tigers but Llanberis probably deserved the win for the number of chances they created in the game.

Friday’s tussle at Treborth saw the Darans open the scoring early on, when an attempted lob hit the bar and struck Menai’s Paul Rowlands from the rebound for an unfortunate own goal.

Tigers took their time to take a hold of the game, but two goals in five minutes swung the match in their favour.

A dipping strike from Lewis Clayton on the edge of the area bounced off goalkeeper Dylan Roberts’ chest and Owain Roberts was first to react, grabbing his second goal of the season.

Llanberis reacted instantly and had a couple of chances, but deflections denied them a second goal.

Clayton drove into the box and appeared to have been fouled, but the Menai Bridge forward stayed on his feet in search of a goal, winning a corner.

Sion Hogan’s pinpoint set-piece found Clayton, who beat the goalkeeper in the air to nod in his seventh league goal in five matches.

As the second half drew on, Llanberis threw everything forward and were unlucky not to equalise on 70 minutes when another deflected strike hit the angle of post and bar.

Their attacking efforts were rewarded two minutes later with the award of a penalty after Harry Morgan Jones was adjudged to have committed a foul in the area.

Llanberis left-back Dion Owen sent Callum Tipton the wrong way to convert the spot-kick.

And the visitors grabbed the winner late on with a Tomos Owen header from a corner that was a carbon copy of Clayton’s first half goal.
