Having lost so disappointingly at Bow seven days earlier, Llandudno Amateurs were determined to bounce back at second-place NFA – and how they did just that!
Goal machines NFA were sent crashing to just their second league defeat of the season.
The visitors were really fast out the traps and took a third-minute lead through Azz Rogers.
Five minutes later it was 2-0 – Rogers again. Both Rogers and Joe Jones were on fire up front for the Amateurs, hitting the home team hard on the counter.
By the 36th minute Rogers had completed his third hat-trick of the season and made it 11 goals in as many matches.
Joe Jones netted from the penalty spot before half time, adding to his three assists.
Early in the second half, Morgan Davies added a fifth for the visitors.
Young Geraint Thomas played well at the back for the visitors, while Kyle King impressed in keeping a clean sheet.
NFA’s disappointing day was rounded off when Matthew Robinson was sent off for a second yellow card in the 88th minute.
Abergele boosted their lead at the summit to seven points and remain unbeaten over nine matches following an eight-goal success against Rhyl All Stars at Dinorben Field.
Gele started strong and dominated from the outset. A through ball from Ryan Pamment was latched onto by Ricci Thomas for his first goal for the club.
Lewis Moroney, with some clever work out wide, beat three men and found Kieran Holland at the back post who headed home to make it 2-0.
Shortly into the second half Gele made changes that enabled them to go up a gear. Tommy Lloyd headed in for 3-0 and shortly after Ben Pamment blasted a 30 yard free kick into the top corner.
Dom Holland set up Will Smith, who slotted in from the edge of the area against his former team.
Ant Zoezee then laid the ball off to Dom Holland who got himself on the scoresheet with a left-foot strike.
Sam Ashton was fouled in the box and up stepped Ryan Pamment who dinked the ball over the keeper to make the score 7-0.
Abergele were not finished there – Tommy Lloyd with a clever turn in the box then cushioned his pass to Dom Holland who guided home from close range.
A second clean sheet for Cain Folly in as many games made it a fine day for Abergele.
This game looked like being postponed due to a lack of referees until Dragons player-manager Steven Taylor, a qualified and respected official, offered his services.
Bow were happy to accept this offer and after a few words of reassurance from Taylor before the start, the match was soon underway.
Hosts Bow were determined to keep their winning run going and began the game on fire.
On eight minutes, Cale Kemp released Kelvin Berks to rifle past the keeper.
In the 37th minute, new signing Charlie Jones earned a penalty and Barry Roche stepped up to take it. Although he scuffed his effort, the ball found the net to make it 2-0 at half time.
At the start of the second half, Dragons came out fighting and got a goal back early on through Adam Cassidy.
Some clever substitutions by the Bow management enabled the hosts to see the game out relatively comfortably.
Ex-Dragon Danny Williams all but sealed the win with a wonderful finish on 64 minutes.
A Robert Lloyd own goal ended the scoring.
Not enough is said about Bow’s Dion Jones, a former Brymbo and Lex player who was a top talent around the tier 2 level a few years back.
But the veteran 43-year-old midfielder is always instrumental in the middle for Bow when available and he played a vital part in his team’s win.
Apart from leaders Abergele, Y Glannau are the only other undefeated team in Division One.
And they stretched their overall unbeaten run to 13 matches with Saturday’s win at Henllan.
Before kick off both teams joined in a minute’s silence to pay their respects on Remembrance weekend.
After 10 minutes the visitors grabbed a deserved lead.
Brad Wright thumped a long goal kick and the ball fell to Harrison Bellis, who turned and hit a sweet strike from 25 yards into the top corner.
Ten minutes before half time and the away side again had the ball in the back of the net.
Josh MacGillivray hurled a long one into the box and Bellis was there with the header to ‘score’, only for the referee to rule it out for a foul throw.
In the final five minutes of the half, Henllan had their best spell, Wright forced to save with his legs.
The second half started like the first for the visitors, Aaron Dodwell going close twice before Chris McQuillen’s shot was deflected behind for a corner.
Alec Jones was then denied by a fine save from Sam Roberts.
Y Glannau finally went two-up on 63 minutes when MacGillivray put a long throw into the box, Joey Fontana flicked on and there was McQuillen to tap home.
McQuillen then got in behind, beat the keeper to the ball, knocked it around him, and his shot/cross went agonisingly close, clipping the post on the way out for a goal kick.
Goal number three landed on 77 minutes when MacGillivray chased down a loose ball, then put a lovely delivery right on to Bellis’ head for him to nod home his 25th goal of the campaign.
The scoring was rounded off when substitute Branden Holmes found some space down the right, lobbed a ball back across goal, Bellis headed down to Corey Williams, who held it up well, turned and smashed home for 4-0.
Good win and Y Glannau’s first clean sheet this season.
A fantastic team performance earned Clwyd all three points at Brookfield Drive.
Rhos had a lot of possession in the first half, creating chances from long throws, but the visitors defended well, then went down the other end and scored a good goal, Cian Jones’ first for the club.
Rhos equalised when another lengthy throw fell to Jordan Dixon to tap home.
The second half saw Clwyd start strong, pressing high and not allowing Rhos any time on the ball. The away side took the lead deservedly after some nice football and a good finish from Elis Davies.
Clwyd created so many good chances after this but failed to put the game to bed and Rhos equalised off another long throw that just needed a touch off Rich Beardmore, which he got to make it 2-2 with seven minutes to go.
But Clwyd never gave up and after some good attacking play the ball fell to Fran Roberts on the edge of the area on his first appearance since returning from a short stint at Y Glannau.
Roberts lashed in a beauty to make it 3-2 to Clwyd, who managed the game well in the remaining five minutes.
Four wins on the bounce in the league sees Clwyd climb the table to joint-fifth with games in hand on teams above.
