GENERO ADRAN NORTH – NOVEMBER 13, 2022

CPD Y Rhyl 1879 2 (Bannister 19, Taylor 77)
Llanfair United 0

Becca Bannister scored 1879’s first goal and provided a wonderful assist for their second as the home side completed back-to-back wins over Llanfair.

Although today’s league game at Belle Vue was not as exciting as the Adran Trophy clash played out between the teams in Powys seven days earlier, which Rhyl won 5-4, it was nonetheless an enthralling contest to watch.

Both sides had early efforts, Mary Bailey blasting a free kick wide, while at the other end captain Rachael Thomas’ fierce right-foot strike was well dealt with by visiting keeper Ffion Evans.

In the 19th minute the deadlock was broken. Niomi Taylor played a slide-rule pass to Bannister, whose right foot effort from the right-hand edge of the box was too powerful for Evans.

Llanfair responded well, Gemma Jones testing home keeper Bethan Thomas, who then blocked at the feet of the useful Sarah Ellis.
Bannister let fly with a beauty from 25 yards, but this time Evans dived late to keep the ball out.

Half-time: 1-0

The second half was very short on chances and the outcome was really in the balance until the final quarter hour, when the hosts netted their second.

Llanfair’s approach work was good at times, but their final delivery was erratic. On occasion they delayed shooting too long, when more decisive action could have brought a goal.

Rachael Thomas went close from 20 yards before the lead was doubled on 77 minutes.

Bannister played an exquisite, pinpoint cross into the box to Niomi Taylor, who trapped the ball well, had her first shot smothered by Evans, but the tall front player made no mistake at the second attempt.
