RHYL AND DISTRICT SUNDAY LEAGUE – NOVEMBER 6

Prestatyn Wanderers 3 Y Clwb 2

Report: Lewis Prime

Just the one league game was played on Sunday due to a referees shortage and it was a cracker which saw Wanderers edge the points.

Y Clwb started the stronger and had a number of chances to go ahead, but it was Wanderers who took the lead.

Jake Johnson at right wing-back knocked the ball down the line to Adam Wright, who flicked it on to Matty Robinson. He beat his man and squared to Tyler Donnelly, who finished for his first Wanderers goal – a really nice team effort.

Y Clwb equalised minutes later when David Hansom was given too much time and scored a beauty with his left foot from about 25-30 yards.

After the break, the Glan Conwy side took the lead when Wanderers’ passing out from the back was intercepted and punished as Sam Porter made it 2-1.

The hosts brought on Lewis Evans and Kris Owen around the hour mark and Wanderers started to create chances.

Will Smith won the ball back in midfield and was able to drive all the way up the pitch to win a corner. Wright fired one near post and Owen Hughes headed home for 2-2.

Robinson was then given the ball in centre midfield and danced past a few Y Clwb players down the left wing, cut in on the touchline and fired in the winner.

Luke Morris came on at left-back and was solid, making loads of clearances. Morris took the field after colossal centre half Paul Ham was forced off with an injury.

Fellow sub James Olte offered Wanderers a target outlet late on, and won a brilliant slide tackle in the rain which definitely picked up everyone’s energy levels and spurred the hosts to victory.

Y Clwb pressed for an equaliser but strong defending and a brilliant double save by Tobo Brogden (MOTM) secured all three points for the Wanderers, making it six in the last 2 games.
