Coulson and Cox net hat-tricks as Cefni record first league win of the season

Ellie Coulson notched her first club hat-trick, fellow striker Jen Cox matched that feat and Llangefni racked up a record league win on a super Sunday at Cae Bob Parry.

This was just Cefni’s second league game of the season due to cup commitments.

With a full squad to pick from, the Anglesey side started the game well, Cox playing in strike partner Coulson to give the hosts the lead.

Caernarfon responded well and kept the home side until the 19th minute when Nia Ginnelly played a beautiful through ball to her former youth team-mate Ffion Thomas to make it 2-0.

The goals continued when Thomas picked up a brace, tucking away a penalty and then crossed for Coulson to head home for her second.

Just before half time Thomas assisted again for Cox to add a fifth.

The second half started on the same note for Cox as she made it a double, this time centre-half Llinos Hughes playing her through.

Thomas then completed a hat-trick of assists to give Coulson her own goal treble.

It was a ‘perfect’ hat-trick for Ellie – one goal with the left foot, another with the right and a header. Must be quite unusual for a player’s first hat-trick for their club to be of the ‘perfect’ variety. Well done!

Manager Dan Gregg now took the opportunity to give Sian-Elin some well-deserved minutes, and she made an immediate impact, finding captain Ginnelly who netted with a fantastic distance strike to top off her usual industrious performance.

Cox, showing her usual power and pace then wrapped up her own hat-trick for 9-0 and Sian-Elin again proved Llangefni’s strength in depth when she scored from a good way out.

To round off the perfect all-round team performance, Jessica Marshall saved a penalty, denying Caernarfon what would have been a deserved consolation goal.

Manager Gregg was delighted with the outcome, even though it hit his pocket (£90) as he had promised the team pizzas all round if they kept a clean sheet!

He also had kind words for the opposition, who are still very new to senior football under their current set-up.

Dan said: “Massive credit to Caernarfon who kept their heads up for the duration, with captain Sara Williams being a great role model to her team.”
