North East Wales Football League – wins for Villa and Lions, FCUW show major improvement

New signing Michael Guest was on target for Caerwys in their win at Gronant

NORTH EAST WALES FOOTBALL LEAGUE REPORTS – OCTOBER 1

Premier Division

New Brighton Villa 3 Greenfield 0

Iwan Rogers, Jared Jones and James Beck shared the goals as the Yellers recorded a morale-boosting victory over champions Greenfield.

Penyffordd Lions 3 Coedpoeth United 1

Penyffordd are one of four clubs in joint second spot on nine points after Saturday’s success over Coedpoeth.

Edward Brown, Ben Hughes and Paul Messham all found the target for the Lions, Michael Taylor replying.

Championship

CPD Gronant 2 Caerwys 3

Having added a number of new signings to their squad, Caerwys hit the ground running with a great result at Gronant.

Michael Guest, Nathan Swann-Jones and Lewis Roberts provided the goals for Dan Sands’ side, Aidan Bell and Dylan Taylor for the hosts, who led 2-1 until the last 20 minutes.

Holywell United 2 Saltney Ferry 2

Two Oliver Johnson goals were not quite enough to deliver Ferry the spoils, Keelan Roberts and Jake Hughes-Hampson both on the mark to earn Holywell a draw.

Overton Recreational 1 Aston Park Rangers 3

Joshua Robert, Kallum Pierce and Andrew Cook supplied the goals which ensured Aston Park remain top of the Championship.

Harry Massey provided a consolation for Overton.

CPD Sychdyn 2 FC United of Wrexham 1

A much improved performance from winless and next-to-bottom FC United of Wrexham saw them just miss out on a first point at second-place Sychdyn.

Having lost their previous league tests 8-0 (twice), 7-0 and 4-1, an FCUW which has strengthened with some new faces got so much closer to a team probably expected to beat them convincingly.

Douglas McDonagh and Shane Wellings put Sychdyn two-up before Osian Jones hit back in the second half.

Reserve Division

Coedpoeth United Reserves 3 Connah’s Quay Town Reserves 2

Kevin Breeze’s injury-time strike bagged the points for Coedy.

Town led twice through Andy Jones and Damon Bradley, but the hosts replied through Scott Davies and Keanu Bruton before Breeze applied the coup de grace in the 95th minute.

Lex Reserves 6 Penyffordd Lions Reserves 4

This game stood 4-4 after 90 minutes, but two added time goals gave Lex the win.

Joel Edwards, James Greenshields, Bradley Wynne, Ryan Brimfield (2) and George Baxter shared the Lawmen’s tally, Regan Jones (2), Tom Dove and Nelson Cunnah for the Lions.
