Report: holders Ruthin cloud Flint Mountain’s big night with impressive victory

NEWFA SENIOR CHALLENGE CUP ROUND THREE

Flint Mountain 1 (Smart 66)
Ruthin Town 4 (Morris 32, Jones 56, Goundrey OG 78, Owen 87 pen)

Holders Ruthin comfortably advanced to the last eight of the NEWFA Challenge Cup at the Essity Stadium.

Playing for the first time at their new home ground, Ardal North West hopefuls Mountain found tier 2 Cymru North visitors Town a bit too strong on the night.

The deadlock was broken on 32 minutes when Llyr Morris found the net for the visitors.

Just a goal down at the break, the tier 3 hosts still had hope, but Josh Jones scoring for Ruthin on 56 minutes made it much more of an uphill task.

Corey Smart did pull Mountain back in the contest by halving the deficit on 66, but an Alex Goundrey own goal after 78 restored the away two-goal advantage.

And Ruthin made ultra sure of their passage when substitute Will Owen converted an 87th minute penalty.
