NORTH WALES COAST EAST LEAGUE REPORTS

TUESDAY, AUGUST 30

PREMIER DIVISION

Llandudno Junction 1 Rhuddlan Town 2

Five wins out of six now in the league for Rhuddlan after they beat a very useful Junction side on Tuesday evening.

Town flew out of the blocks and took a first-minute lead, Jordan Bellham heading in an Elliot Turner corner.

Matty Rees and Bellham were denied further goals before the break thanks to fine stops from home keeper Matthew Russell.

Junction levelled in the second half with a thunderbolt strike from Jack Williams.

Rhuddlan upped a gear and notched a 75th minute winner when Mathew Beech lashed in a beauty from 25 yards.

Jimmy McNally’s Llandyrnog side made it three wins on the bounce with a hard-earned triumph over Cernyw.

Craig Jones handed the hosts an eighth-minute lead, but Lewis Brownson levelled on 28 and it stayed one-apiece up to half time.

David Lawson-Cooke restored the home advantage on 58 minutes and lively newcomer Osian Audley added a third goal after 76.

Penmaenmawr Phoenix 3 Mochdre Sports 3

JONATHAN ERVINE captures some action from Penmaenmawr Phoenix v Mochdre Sports (green)

Late, late drama at Cae Sling as Mochdre salvaged a point with a 95th minute equaliser from Jordan Phillips.

Penmaenmawr started the brighter, opening the scoring in the 14th minute through Daniel Hughes.

The home side dominated large parts of the first half and were unlucky to only go in 1-0 up at the break.

The second half was a much more even contest but Penmaenmawr made it 2-0 in the 70th minute with a fine finish from Daniel Williams, lifting the ball over onrushing goalkeeper Nic Bould.

This seemed to spur Mochdre into life and with two quickfire goals from Phillips and substitute Chris Lloyd, it was back level.

Phoenix then retook the lead in the 82nd minute through Jamie Jones.

The thrills were not over just yet. Mochdre were awarded a corner in the 95th minute and from a Chris Lloyd flick on at the front post, Phillips was on hand to poke the ball home from close range and claim a point for the visitors.

SATURDAY, AUGUST 27

PREMIER DIVISION

Blaenau Amateurs 0 CPD Llannefydd 6

It has been a great few days for Llannefydd, with the return of last season’s top scorer Llion Morris to the club from a short spell at Llanrwst alongside a 6-0 win at Blaenau, Rhys Llwyd (2), Elgan Roberts (pen), Nico Clwyd, Ciran Jones and Jared Jones sharing the goals.

CPD Bro Cernyw 0 Prestatyn Sports 2

Antonio Jacovelli and Tom Wickerson notched the goals which delivered maximum points to high-riders Prestatyn Sports.

Kinmel Bay 1 Penmaenmawr Phoenix 3

Peter Jones (2) and Mezz Knight clinched the points for Phoenix, Connor Morris responding for Kinmel.

Llanfairfechan Town 1 CPD Llansannan 2

Gwion Bibby and Leon Gierke bagged the goals which turned the game Llansannan’s way after Elliot Croston gave Llanfair a 21st minute lead.

Rhuddlan Town 2 Meliden 1

Debutant David Sharkey’s double ensured Rhuddlan emerged victorious in their much-awaited derby with Meliden.

It took ‘Barney’ Barnes’ side until the 38th minute to break the deadlock after some fantastic saves from visiting keeper Morgan Parker.

Sharkey, in his first league outing for the club, won a header from a Ben Jacobson cross which flew into the net.

Three minutes later Sharkey made it 2-0, this time Ethan Taylor with the assist.

In the second half Rhuddlan continued to push forward but some last-ditch defending and more Parker heroics kept the score down.

Meliden had a decent spell which was rewarded with an added-time penalty that Matty Griffiths put away, but it was too little, too late for the visitors.

St Asaph City 3 Glan Conwy 2

Two late goals from spirited visitors Glan Conwy made it an uncomfortable ending for leaders St Asaph.

Goals from Ryan Potts (2) and Kieran Garnett-Hughes had the hosts three-up early in the second half and seemingly coasting, but David Hansom and sub Harry Sweetman hit back for the pointless bottom team in the closing minutes.

DIVISION ONE

Abergele 4 Bow 1

Abergele continued their perfect start to the season, making it five wins out of five with a hard-fought success at home to second-place Bow FC.

Sam Ashton scored six minutes into the game after some great work out wide by Connah Atkinson.

This was the only positive to take from the first half as Abergele struggled to get a foothold.

Gele gave away a free kick at the edge of the box that was well taken by Barry Roche, who found the net to make the scores level at half time.

Tactical changes and the introduction of Kieran Holland by manager Luke Binns at half time changed the complexion of the game and the momentum swung in Gele’s favour.

This came about particularly thanks to the experienced Lewis Moroney’s move to the middle of the park.

Moroney’s addition to the centre allowed James Lloyd to influence the match.

An own goal put Gele back in the lead and this was followed shortly after by a Frankie Hennigan net-finder, Lloyd with the assist.

Three minutes later, a ball was fed out wide to Anthony Zoezee, who beat his man and finished well.

Betws-y-Coed P Rhos United P

Betws are struggling to assemble a squad at present and have been given two weeks’ grace by the league to address their problems.

CPD Caer Clwyd 2 NFA 2

This one ended a point apiece, Owain Jones and Craig Lavery netting for the hosts, Archie Jones and Niall McGuinness (pen) the visitors.

CPD Henllan 2 Rhyl Dragons 3

Dougie Lonsdale notched an 86th minute decider for Dragons at Top Park.

Dean Hughes was also on the mark for the visitors, Sam Davies and David Wilkins for the home side.

Davies also missed a penalty for Henllan.

Rhyl All Stars 2 Y Glannau 4

Two goals apiece from Harrison Bellis and Chris McQuillen secured maximum points for Y Glannau.

Liam Brown and an amazing effort from Will Smith had put Rhyl All Stars 2-1 up at half time, but the second 45 minutes was a different story.

The visitors took an 18th minute lead when a superb cross from McQuillen was finished off by Bellis.

All Stars grew into the game and were level on 26 minutes when Owen Butters beat three men down the right, crossed, and Brown scored with a diving header.

Will Smith put the hosts in front in first half injury time with a truly stunning strike from 35 yards.

Twenty seconds into the second half, it was 2-2.

Joey Fontana won a header from the All Stars kick off which found Bellis. He then fed an exquisite ball to McQuillen, who was one-on-one with keeper Liam Curzon and slotted home.

After this, Y Glannau were dominant.

Just past the hour, the St Asaph-based visitors were in front.

Tom Jones flicked on Alec Williams’ long throw and McQuillen was on the goal-line to head in.

The game was sealed with a penalty. Michael Bellis was pushed in the back and his twin Harrison Bellis stepped up to convert.
