NORTH WALES CRICKET LEAGUE REPORTS – MONDAY, AUGUST 29

DIVISION TWO

Ruthin (3) 107-9 Bethesda (12) 143-10

Llongyfarchiadau/Congratulations to Bethesda on securing promotion to North Wales League Division One.

The Parc Villa side clinched a top two place with yesterday’s 12-3 success at Ruthin.

Pesda now need 16 points from their remaining two matches to land the Division Two title.

They are home to Northop 2nd XI on September 10 and welcome St Asaph 2nd XI to the Ogwen Valley seven days later.

Although Bethesda suffered a setback on Saturday when they lost narrowly to second-place Menai Bridge seconds, Jonathan Williams’ side bounced back well at Ruthin.

Put into bat, Pesda were bowled out for a modest 143, in 37.5 overs, Richie Parry making 33 and Nicholas Parry 32.

Matthew Duckworth scooped 3-22, Oliver Jones 2-26 and Osian Roberts 2-28 for a well-balanced home team attack.

A win of any sort would guarantee promotion for the visitors and when they had Ruthin 48-5 in reply, things looked very promising.

The hosts did recover to reach 107-9 by the close, but the points outcome was a comfortable 12-3 in Bethesda’s favour.

Carwyn L Williams snapped up an excellent 3-14 off nine for the table-toppers, Ashley Rowlands 2-16 from nine and Jamie Savage 2-20.

Gresford 2nd XI (14) 167-2 Bersham (1) 165-8

Not even Suresh Lakmal Koswaththage’s season’s best 103 not out was enough to save Bersham from a heavy loss at Clappers Lane.

Captain Suresh decided to bat and his first hundred of 2022 totally dominated an away effort of 165-8 off 40 overs. The skipper is now on 826 league runs for the campaign.

Sam Richardson took 3-26 and Sam Burke 3-45 for the hosts.

Gresford seconds skipper George Morris did even better, scoring 109 not out as his team coasted to 167-2 in 33.4 for a 14-1 success. Morris is on 816 league runs.

Opener Steve Griffin added 32 for the victorious Colliers.

DIVISION THREE

Pontblyddyn 2nd XI (15) 68-0 Abergele 2nd XI (0) 67-10

Title-chasers Pont closed the gap on leaders Brymbo seconds to three points with a game in hand after thrashing Abergele seconds at Alder Meadow on Monday.

Gele were sent packing for just 67, Rana Das 24 and Anthony Howe 23, Daz Wilcock an outstanding 3-6 off nine for the hosts, Ioan Jones 2-13 from seven – another good spell from the youngster.

Pont raced to 68-0 in 13, Josh Hollinshead 36 not out and skipper Richard Davies 26 no.

Conwy 2nd XI (1) 168-6 Denbigh 2nd XI (14) 169-3

Andy Thomas’ fine knock of 70 did most to secure a Denbigh seconds triumph.

Hosts Conwy seconds were inserted and mustered 168-6 off 40, Lewis Jones 72 and skipper Carwyn Thomas 36, Ian Hall 3-36 for the visitors.

Denbigh reached 169-3 to clinch a 14-1 verdict, skipper Jon Eccles (46) adding to Thomas’ great effort.

DIVISION FOUR

Carmel 2nd XI (4) 169-3 Halkyn 2nd XI (11) 181-7
