Colwyn Bay second team added to the festive mood at the club over the weekend by winning their divisional T20 Chrysalis Trophy.
In the semi-final against Leigh 2nd XI, Bay bowled out the opposition for 115 in 20 overs and then reached a winning 119-8 with three balls to spare.
Next came the final against Northern 2nd XI, which once again was a close-fought battle which saw the North Wales side finish on top by the narrowest of margins.
Put into bat, the Bay chalked up 123-8 off their 20 overs, opener Arthur Jones leading the charge with 41, Oliver Pitman adding 23 and Jamie Moorhouse 21 not out.
In response, Northern’s innings closed on 122-7, so victory was achieved by Bay by just a single run. Northern needed two off the final ball to win, but the Bay held firm.
Arthur Jones starred again for the Penrhyn Avenue side, taking 3-27, while Moorhouse and Shay Williams scooped a wicket apiece.
The finals were played at the Northern club in Crosby, Lancashire.
This latest success for Colwyn Bay seconds follows last year’s Liverpool and District Cricket Competition 2nd XI First Division championship triumph.
Bay are enjoying a great season in the Premier Division, currently lying second.
The Chrysalis Trophy win came on the same weekend Colwyn Bay’s ladies lifted the inaugural Hundred Ball Welsh Plate in Bridgend.
