Substitute Jamie Cumming settled this one when he scored direct from a corner in the 93rd minute for Ruthin.

Town manager Philly Hudson felt his team was a trifle lucky to take all three points, but nonetheless welcomed the reward.

He said: “To be honest we were way off it today, but it’s the old cliche that it’s the sign of a decent side if you can play as poorly as that but still come away with the three points. But we were somewhat fortunate today.”

Guilsfield 4 Mold Alexandra 0

Not the start newly-promoted Mold were looking for as a Guilsfield outfit highly experienced at this level romped to three points.

Jamie Hyne broke the deadlock on 34 minutes, Iwan Matthews converted a penalty after 37 and the points were all but in the bag when Joe Haycock added a third on 43.

Matthews made it four in the 55th minute.

Holywell Town 0 Holyhead Hotspur 0

Former Wycombe Wanderers keeper Alex Lynch was Hotspur’s hero after a third-minute penalty save which did more than anything to ensure his team took a point from their opener at Halkyn Road.

That early spot-kick was awarded after Jake Cooke was felled in the area. Lynch saved Danny Andrews’ effort with his legs, then the rebound fell to Damian Ketley, but his attempt was also blocked by the keeper.

Home stopper Keighan Jones got down well to save a Kenleigh Owen shot before Lynch shone again in keeping out a Dave Forbes strike.

Town very nearly took the lead a minute into the second half when a good cross by Tom Bibby was touched on by Forbes, but the ball came back off the post and was cleared to safety.

Holywell were reduced to 10 men on 57 minutes when Cooke saw red for what was deemed a bad challenge.

Hotspur now threatened, Deian Parry failing to capitalise on an under-hit back-pass before Jones was brave to gather the ball in front of Jay Gibbs.

Danny Sullivan had two efforts saved brilliantly by Lynch, then Kai Edwards had an effort fly over the bar.

Llanidloes Town 2 Porthmadog 3

New signing Callum Parry’s 91st minute net-finder was enough to ensure Port’s return to tier 2 started with a win.

Llanidloes took a 2-0 lead, Jamie Breese on the mark in the eighth minute before Elliot Jones converted a penalty just before the break.

Port picked up the pace in the second half and halved the deficit on 63 minutes through Alex Boss.

Rhys Alun levelled it on 82 and then Parry snatched the spoils in the dying stages.

Penrhyncoch 1 Gresford Athletic 0

Geoff Kellaway’s 11th minute goal was sufficient to seal the spoils for Penrhyncoch.
