First Welsh Cup draw of 2022-23 throws up some very interesting ties – who has your club got?

Abergele have landed a cracking tie at CPD Y Rhyl 1879 in the first qualifying round of the 2022-23 JD Welsh Cup.

The pairing of last season’s North Wales Coast East League Division One champions and the undefeated Premier Division title winners at Belle Vue is undoubtedly one of the eye-catching tussles of the opening stage.

FC United of Wrexham enter the cup for the first time and will travel to CPD Y Glannau of North Wales Coast East Division One.

And what a thrilling derby Kinmel Bay v Rhuddlan Town promises to be!

Llandudno Albion of tier 3 and tier 4 St Asaph City have an uncanny knack of being drawn together in cup competitions – and it has happened again. Maesdu Park will be the venue for the meeting of familiar foes on the weekend of July 30.

Connah’s Quay Town v Flint Mountain is another exciting match-up for the Deeside-Flintshire area.

The last 16 heroes of 2021-22, Saltney Town, are away to Penycae first up.

THE 2022-23 JD WELSH CUP

The 2022/23 JD Welsh Cup was launched today as the draw for Qualifying Round 1 was made at the FAW HQ in Hensol.

The competition has achieved another record-breaking year with the 253 entries surpassing last season’s previous record, with an increase of 10.

The National Cup Board have made some notable Rule changes for the new season with the introduction of the use of up to five substitutes, within three substitute periods for all rounds.

Additionally, and following the success of the Round 2 seedings last year, this procedure has been maintained, but all of the 28 seeded clubs from the JD Cymru Premier (12), JD Cymru North (8) and JD Cymru South (8) will be drawn away from home in Round 2.

There were 194 clubs in today’s draw with 15 Tier 3 clubs receiving byes into Qualifying Round 2, based on their league positions at the end of last season.

Matches in Qualifying Round 1 will be played over the weekend of Saturday 30th July 2022 with the QR2 draw taking place on Monday 1st August.
