Halkyn and Flint Mountain appoint new manager

Halkyn and Flint Mountain Football Club have appointed an ambitious and experienced new manager to lead them into what they hope will be a great fresh adventure.

Aden Shannon has agreed to become boss of the Flintshire outfit after Rob Marshall stepped down last week.

Shannon joins the Mountain after a recent spell as joint-manager of Runcorn Town and is a former boss of Flint Town United.

He will be joined at the club by Flint legends Jonny Hill as assistant-manager and John Davies as player-coach. Mountain will share Flint’s Essity Stadium next season.

Shannon, 42, played in the Welsh Premier League for Connah’s Quay Nomads, Welshpool Town and Porthmadog, gaining a reputation as a capable goalscorer.

He later wore the colours of Cefn Druids and Conwy Borough in the Cymru Alliance.

After joining Flint as a player under Chris Herbert, Shannon took charge of first team affairs when Herbert left to take on the Chester FC job. Shannon subsequently became head coach for the Silkmen.

A Halkyn and Flint Mountain spokesman said: “Aden is the perfect choice to progress the club as we await confirmation of our promotion to the Ardal Leagues.”

Shannon had this to say on his appointment: “Firstly, I would like to thank Phil Davies, Andy Hughes and the committee for giving me the chance to take the club forward.

“When the job was first mentioned to me I was unsure if this was the right move for me at this time, but after a good meeting with the chairman, he convinced me that his ambitions and vision mirror my own.

“Another big factor for myself is the strong relationship I have with the area having been involved with Flint Town for a number of years and the fact the club has secured the ground-share, which is fantastic.

“I do believe myself, along with Jonny and JD, are the perfect balance and will hopefully bring continued success and progression to the club, both on and off the field.”

Halkyn and Flint Mountain finished runners-up in the tier 4 North East Wales Football League Premier Division this season and are awaiting news on their promotion application to the T3 Ardal Northern.
