North Wales Coast League West Premier Division Cup Final….Bangor 1876 v Bodedern Athletic!
The two teams who were a country mile ahead of the rest in the Tier 4 Premier this season will meet in a showpiece to treasure.
Champions Bodedern Athletic versus runners-up Bangor 1876.
Today saw the blues in red of 1876 earn the right to take on the champs in what will be the first final in their short history.
The first 10 minutes at Treborth were evenly contested as both sides looked for that clear opportunity to score.
It was the hosts who broke the deadlock when they were the fortunate recipients of an own goal in the 12th minute.
The home lead doubled in the 22nd minute when some good work on the right wing from Aaron Heald and Harry Galeotti allowed Gethin Thomas to collect the ball. Thomas then dribbled far enough across the edge of the six-yard box to find enough room for a calm finish.
Nefyn did not submit to the situation and scored a goal of their own in 26th minute. Carl Jones reduced the home lead when his shot hit the underside of the crossbar and landed behind the goal-line.
The pattern of trading attacks continued for next 19 minutes or so as both sides passed the ball well and tried to exert attacking pressure.
Corrig McGonigle restored the home side’s two-goal advantage in stoppage time when he applied a trademark assured finish to an accurate midfield through ball.
Half-time: 3-1
The first third of the second half had an even feel as both sides attacked in the manner of the first period.
The 66th minute saw the blues in red extend their lead when Gethin Thomas took advantage of some defensive uncertainty to score his second.
From an 1876 perspective the next 20 minutes had some very pleasing aspects. There was some nice passing, Galeotti looked sharp on the wing, Corey Jones looked composed in defence and Les Davies put in some sterling defensive work.
McGonigle completed the scoring in the 86th minute when he applied another calm finish to an intelligent pass from fellow brace holder, Gethin Thomas.
