Champions Rhyl 1879 just need to avoid defeat at Glan Conwy on Thursday night to be crowned the invincibles.

Gareth Thomas’ side are undefeated in all 25 North Wales Coast East Premier Division matches they have played this season.

With 23 wins, two draws (both against runners-up Llannefydd), 111 goals scored, just 20 conceded and a GD of +91, the newly-formed Belle Vue outfit have been nothing short of sensational.

They are also still on course for a treble, having lifted the Cookson Cup and reaching the final of the NWCFA Intermediate Cup.

Another massive achievement, if they draw or win at Glan Conwy, will be recorded by the club as it would mean both the men’s and women’s teams winning their respective leagues without suffering a single defeat.

CPD Y Rhyl 1879 women landed the North Wales League title on Sunday with a slate of 16 wins, two draws and no losses.

Rhyl’s men made it 16 victories on the bounce last Saturday with an 8-0 away drubbing of Llanfairfechan.

Thomas’ men had been presented with the league trophy just three days earlier.

Kieran Ellis opened the scoring in the seventh minute after a prolonged period of pressure from the away side.

Youngster Leon Atkins made it 2-0 on 16 when he beat the offside trap to fire home a thunderous strike into the top left corner.

With 32 minutes played it was Ellis again with a great delicate finish , then on 41 Atkins secured his brace with a fine strike from distance.

Midfielder Jordan Worthington made it five before the break.

Ellis secured his hat-trick and 26th goal of the season in all competitions with another delightful net-finder in the first minute of the second half.

Atkins became the second player to grab a treble, forcing the ball over the line for 7-0.

Wing-back Chris Bennett completed the score-fest with a fabulous right footed strike

CPD Y Rhyl 1879’s final league game of their first historic season is at Glan Conwy on Thursday, May 19, 6.30 pm kick off.
