Colwyn Bay’s Paul Jenkins started the 2022 league campaign in fantastic form

Evergreen spin-king Paul Jenkins produced a master bowling display as Colwyn Bay kicked off the 2022 campaign with an eight-wicket success.

The 50-year-old left-arm spinner, who passed the 1,000 league wickets mark last season, took 4-14 off 11 overs on Saturday after visitors Spring View were dismissed for 91 after being put into bat at Penrhyn Avenue.

Adam Campion picked up 3-16 and Ryan Holtby 2-28 as the promoted Wigan-area team were put to the sword.

Bay then coasted to 93-2 in 17.5 overs, opener Will Evans 60 not out off 50 balls as the hosts wrapped up a 20-1 points verdict.

Teenage opener Evan Withe struck a first-team best 87 for Northop Hall in a drawn encounter against Fleetwood Hesketh at Smithy Lane.

Hall were inserted by the visitors and posted 233-3 declared off 55 overs, Withe topping the scorecard and putting on 101 for the third wicket with skipper Will Higginson (65 not out).

Jamie Hodgson (36 no) added an unbroken 57 with Higginson.

In reply, Fleetwood’s innings ended on 224-7, skipper Matthew Howard hitting 100, while Darren Leach scooped 3-56 and Joshua Leech 2-69.

1ST XI SECOND DIVISION

Prestatyn (5) 73-10 Maghull (24) 210-10

Despite a trademark five-for from wicket-machine Sampath Perera, his team Prestatyn ended up well beaten in their 2022 opener at home to Maghull.

The Sri Lankan ace picked up 5-42 and Adam Tidswell 4-65, but the Liverpool visitors, put into bat, chalked up 210 all out, openers Jonathan Ring (95) and Liam Crilly (50) putting on 139 for the first wicket.

Prestatyn were then bowled out for a woeful 73, Perera 23 and Munowar Samsodien snaring 5-27 for the Merseysiders.
