Llanystumdwy win high praise from manager for spirited performance at Trearddur Bay

Llanystumdwy player-manager Tash Matthews was proud of her team for the way they battled against the odds at Trearddur Bay on Sunday.

Despite losing 5-2, Llan, who only had 10 players, never gave in and won high praise from their hosts for making the long journey to Anglesey and giving their all with such a small squad.

Defender Tash said: “We are very proud of our ladies who despite travelling all that distance with only 10 players never gave up and showed courage to battle on regardless.”

Llanystumdwy travelled to Trearddur Bay with 10 players due to injuries and other commitments.

The ladies knew they had to start strongly but failed to do so and soon conceded in the 11th minute when a ball over the defence found Bay’s Gail Manning, whose shot from afar went in over the head of Sara Lacey.

As soon as Llan kicked off again we were on the attack. A brilliant ball from Ffion Emery found Grace Mpuku, who calmly put the ball in the back of the net.

The team talk saw Llan feeling positive as they were matching Trearddur Bay’s performance regardless of having a player less.

Bay were quick off the mark at the start of the second half, piling on the pressure, and it wasn’t long before their captain Ashleigh Jones shot and found the net.

Soon after it was 3-1 when Heidi Sanderson scored and the extra player was really starting to show.

Llanystumdwy were tired but carried on relentlessly with Shaynna Vidamour and Ffion Emery constantly running in the middle.

However, two more quick goals saw Llanystumdwy ladies 5-1 down, Gail Manning and Rhian Griffiths the scorers.

A corner came for Llanystumdwy after some pressure applied on the opposing end and Tash Matthews lifted a ball into the middle where Grace Mpuku headed home to make the scoreline 5-2. This was Grace’s ninth goal of the season.
