While so many played their part in the Tier 2 Adran North League being such a first-season success, one individual stood out just that little bit more than the rest.
Football isn’t just about goalscorers, but a good one doesn’t half help!
Wrexham AFC Women’s Rosie Hughes was already a well-known name in North Wales football before this season, but after her net-busting exploits this term her reputation has rocketed.
Her phenomenal stats in a goal-packed first campaign with the Reds include:
Denbigh Town (17), Pwllheli (5), Airbus (4), Llanfair United (3), Bethel (3), Connah’s Quay Nomads (2), Llandudno (2).
Rosie has scored the most goals across the Adran Leagues and the nearest to her 48 in all competitions throughout North Wales is Llandudno’s Maddie Williams on 29.
Born on December 10, 1995, Rosie has displayed immeasurable football talent since she was a youngster.
She was in the cracking Kinmel Bay team which met Cardiff City in the 2011-12 Under-16 Welsh Cup final.
The Colwyn Bay based striker first made her mark in senior football when she won the North Wales Women’s League title as a teenager with Kinmel Bay back in 2012-13.
Also a former Colwyn Bay player, she went on to represent Llandudno for several years in the Welsh Premier Women’s League.
Rosie was top-scorer for the team most seasons and played a major role in Tudno reaching the 2015-16 Welsh Cup final.
She later joined Denbigh Town in a 2019-20 season cut short by Covid, but achieved some stunning goal-getting feats.
Wrexham AFC Women made the signing of the summer when they brought Rosie to the club in August 2021.
What an amazing season she has had – one that will never be forgotten.
She has also won admirers in high places.
How about this Tweet from one-half of Wrexham AFC’s Hollywood owner-duo Rob McElhenney……
