NORTH WALES WOMEN’S FOOTBALL LEAGUE PREVIEWS – SUNDAY, MARCH 13 (2 pm)

CPDM Bangor 1876 v Amlwch Town

Fourth meets second in what should be a cracker. This will be the first meeting of the teams.

Both sides are coming off big wins.

In their last fixtures a fortnight ago, 1876 defeated Trearddur Bay 8-1 and Amlwch whipped Llanystumdwy 11-1.

Speaking before this Sunday’s game, 1876 manager Aron Griffith said: “We’re really excited to welcome Amlwch down to Plas Ffrancon this Sunday. We haven’t yet played each other competitively this season so its going to be an interesting game for sure.

“It will be a tough game for both sides. They’ve been playing well, getting results and they’re a strong team full good players but so are we.

“Working off our last game and building on that performance we’ve had a week off to work different things into our training sessions in preparation for this match. We as coaching staff are looking forward to see how it pans out.

“The squad’s up for it and we’re confident in the team’s ability to go out and get a result. Yes, Amlwch are a very good side but hopefully we can bag the 3 points. That’ s our plan anyway.”

1876 prolific striker Ceri Lois is in line for a return after a long absence.

Northop Hall v NFA

Third-place NFA travel to Northop Hall aiming for a treble over the Flintshire side having beaten them 4-1 in the league and 3-1 in the Welsh Cup at Rhyl previously this season.

It could be tricky though, with Hall’s Holly Mayers and Amy Glendinning showing some deadly form in front of goal lately.

CPD Y Rhyl 1879 v Llanystumdwy

With leaders Rhyl unbeaten and having already won 12-1 at Llanystumdwy this season, the form book strongly favours a home win.

Llan are battlers, though, and if they have their strongest team – minus wonder mum Sarah O’Hara who is expecting her NINTH child – they can improve on that January caning.

Trearddur Bay v Llangefni Town

An Anglesey derby to savour.

Llangefni will be aiming for a double over Trearddur, who they beat 4-0 at Cae Bob Parry last October.

Cefni manager Dan Gregg reports a full squad is available with the exception of left-winger Lara Cain, who is out with a knee injury.

“Everybody else fit and ready,” reports Dan. “Llinos Hughes is back from an ankle injury. Doubt I’m going to replace Catrin George at centre back though – she deserves to keep her place.

“It’s also Jade Cook’s last game this season before she leaves for the RAF 😭😭😭 she’s been probably our best player this season, she’s a workhorse on the field and does everything with a massive smile on her face. She’s infectious and we will miss her so much.”

Welshpool Town v Holywell

Having picked up 10 points out of 12 since the turn of the year, Welshpool will be expected to keep their run going against bottom side Holywell.

Five weeks ago, the mid-Wales team triumphed 7-1 at Carmel Cricket Club, so will be targeting a double over the Wellwomen.

Pool were hammered at Llandudno in the NEWFA Cup recently, but that was expected against a team of that quality.

Holywell are seeking new players and will never give up the ghost. Hopefully they can put in an encouraging display on Sunday at Maesydre.
