NORTH EAST WALES FOOTBALL LEAGUE REPORTS – FEBRUARY 26

HORACE WYNNE CUP

Greenfield delivered the goods in style as they whipped the only team above them in the North East Wales League Premier Division – leaders Chirk Town – 5-1 in round one of the Horace Wynne Cup.

Danny Calvert led the way with a hat-trick for the home side, including two penalties, while Lewis Williams added a double.

All this after Aaron Davies had given the Taverners a 24th minute lead.

Round two action saw Cefn Mawr Rangers eliminate Ruabon Rovers 4-2.

Matthew Jones, Kurt Issac, Harvey Williams and Hari Gould shared the home goals, Lee Price with a pair for the visitors.

Tommy Leonard hit a treble in Connah’s Quay Town’s 10-0 demolition of Johnstown YFC.

John Coady (2), Lee Reynolds, Lee Jones, Ryan Hewitt, Ben Howarth and Sean Williams supplied the rest of the goals.

New Brighton Villa edged a 2-1 verdict at CPD Sychdyn, Liam Davies and Scott Davies with the second-half goals for the Yellers after Keiye Williams had put the Mold-area villagers in front.

Adam Lloyd notched a hat-trick in Coedpoeth United’s 5-1 success at Overton Recreational.

David Hughes and Kady Seabrook added singles for the visitors, Christopher Bush responding for the hosts.

Veteran Ricky Evans grabbed a 90th minute winner for Lex XI in a 3-2 decision over Castell Alun Colts.

Alister Randles and Andrew Bithell established a two-goal lead for the visitors at half time, but Alan Huxley pulled one back for the Lawmen on 48 minutes, Finley Dyer levelled after 82 and Evans reproduced some of the old magic with the decider.

Llangollen Town led 2-0 at FC Queen’s Park, but were pegged back for a 2-2 draw.

Benjamin Wilson and Luke Riley found the net in the opening 45, Ben White and Tony Jones replying after the break.

CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION

Matty Holmes struck four times and Liam Williams grabbed a treble as leaders Penyffordd Lions rattled up a 13-0 success at Bellevue.

Oliver Johnson and Marcus Davies added two apiece, Ethan Davies and Joseph Henry also making the scoresheet.

Caerwys romped to a 9-1 victory at FC United of Wrexham.

Callum Pritchard (3), Callum Price (2), Lewis Harrison, Jack Swinnerton, Toby Hughes and Kyle Jones split the away haul, Tony Ratcliffe for the hosts.

There were no goals in the contest between Borras Park Albion and Brymbo Lodge.

Runaway leaders Hawarden Rangers overcame a spirited Caerwys 3-1.

Damon Bradley (2) and Daniel Jones struck for the hosts, Ryan Anderson with the away goal.

Keanu Bruton, Jacob Williams and an Oliver Bentley own goal ensured Coedpoeth United took the spoils 3-0 at Llangollen Town.

Jay Wiles pocketed a hat-trick in Mynydd Isa Spartans’ 7-0 caning of Cefn Mawr Rangers.

Adam Woosey (2), Charlie Ferguson and Iwan Mitchell also joined in the spree.

George Baxter netted three in Lex XI’s 6-2 away thrashing of Ruthin Town Development.

Joshua Vernon (2) and Joshua Hancock provided the rest for the Lawmen, Robert Jones and Byron Jones notching Ruthin’s consolations.
