TUESDAY, MARCH 1

Colwyn Bay 0
Holywell Town 3 (Ilan Ap Gareth 30, Danny Sullivan 88, Dave Forbes 90+)

A stunning away win for Holywell sent Colwyn Bay tumbling to their first defeat under Steve Evans.

Goals from Ilan Ap Gareth, Danny Sullivan and Dave Forbes sealed a victory which moved the Wellmen up to fifth in Cymru North.

In the past six weeks, Johnny Haseldin’s men have turned over three of the top four teams on their own patch – Llandudno (2-0), Guilsfield (2-1) and now the Bay.

Fresh from Saturday’s emphatic 5-0 win over Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant, Town travelled to the Four Crosses Construction Arena full of confidence on Tuesday evening.

The crowd of 650 were treated to a lively start. Holywell’s Dylan Allshorn forced a good early save from Ryan Neild before at the other end Keighan Jones got down well to thwart Ryan Edwards.

Bay thought they had taken the lead when Thomas McCready’s shot hit the crossbar and dropped down and back into play but the referee and his assistant waved play on as the ball had not crossed the line.

With half an hour played, the Wellmen took the lead.

Allshorn beat his marker down the flank and his low cross from the byline was tapped home by Ilan ap Gareth.

The home side should have scored an instant equaliser, but Edwards’ shot was saved by Jones. Moments later, Kieran Evans fired just past the post.

With the half coming to a close, Bay were grateful to goalkeeper Neild again for denying Allshorn.

Early in the second period, Jones made a couple of great saves in quick succession, foiling James Kirby and then Edwards.

Town still had chances, Neild on hand at his near post to save well from Allshorn.

Three minutes from time, the visitors were awarded a free kick on the edge of the box. Danny Andrews’ delivery was heading for the net until Neild reached out to palm away for a corner.

From the flag kick, a goalmouth scramble saw the ball fall to Sullivan, whose effort flew into the top of the net to give Town a two-goal cushion.

Deep into injury time, Dave Forbes made it three on St David’s Day.

A high ball into the box saw Neild unable to gather and Forbes controlled and tapped home to round off a memorable triumph.

League top scorer Adam Davies raised his total for the campaign to 28 goals with a first-half double against Llanidloes.

Despite trailing to a Sam Litchfield own goal, Guilsfield rallied to take the points through net-finders from Robbie James, Chris Cathrall and a 77th minute penalty by Greg Draper.

Holywell Town 5 Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant 0

A ruthless display from the Wellmen with Dave Forbes, Ilan Ap Gareth, Zebb Edwards and Danny Andrews (2, 1 pen) sharing the goals at Halkyn Road.
