Manager Owen Davis praises his Penrhyn Bay girls side’s ‘phenomenal’ semi-final display

Penrhyn Bay Under-16 Girls’ new manager Owen Davis could not have been more proud after his side made yet another Welsh Cup final at the weekend.

Former Machno United men’s team boss Owen, who runs the all-conquering Penrhyn Bay girls side with Tracey Glover and Eurwyn Vaughan, whose daughters Azita and Catrin respectively play for the team, watched on with delight at Sunday’s 3-0 semi-final success over Treowen Girls.

Owen, whose own daughter Alys also represents the team, said: “I took over as manager this season but like to think of Tracey and Eurwyn and myself as a team. Without them it would be impossible. It’s my first role since packing in as manager at Machno due to heart issues, and I’m loving it to be honest. Having said that it is just as challenging!

“It’s a great club though with great support.”

Phoebe Ellis (2) and Christiana Allen shared the goals in Penrhyn’s win at Latham Park over their South Wales rivals.

Owen said: “To say I am extremely proud would be a massive understatement. The girls were magnificent and the way they managed to figure out a way to win what was a very tough game was admirable.

“There were undoubtedly periods of the game when we were under pressure but our defence held firm to say the least! Our goalkeeper and back-line on the day were simply phenomenal.

“Going forward, I thought that we definitely caused Treowen a lot of problems, hitting the woodwork a couple of times in addition to the goals we scored.

“I thought that Sienna Nash in the Treowen goal was superb in her reading of the game and her ability to “sweep up” many of the through balls we attempted.”

The manager added: “It was such a tremendous experience for our girls and great credit must be paid to the FAW for the spectacle they put on.

“Personally, I would say hard luck to Treowen and thank you for such a competitive match, and similar commiserations to Caernarfon who looked like they gave Cardiff City a very hard game. We know that Cardiff will be extremely tough opponents in the final, but we look forward immensely to it.

“My overriding emotion is of great pride in EVERY SINGLE ONE of our girls who simply couldn’t have given any more and played some great football on top.

“As always my thanks go to my fellow coaches, Tracey and Eurwyn, and of course to all of our parents and followers without whose fantastic support none of this would be possible.”
