Hails from Gwalchmai, scores goals for fun and is in contention to win trophies….

Who am I talking about?

I bet 90% of you are thinking of Marc Evans, Bodedern Athletic goal-machine and record-breaking striker.

Well you are not too far away, but the player in question for this article is Marc’s niece – Jess Jones!

The 16-year-old talent plays for Caernarfon Town Under-16s and this weekend she competes for the Cofis in the FAW U-16 Welsh Cup semi-finals against Cardiff City.

Jess has banged in 29 goals in 10 matches this season, so the family gift for finding the net had obviously been passed on!

Grassroots North Wales spoke to Jess ahead of her big date on Sunday.

How excited are you about Sunday’s semi-final in Newtown?

Jess: I’m super excited. First experience ever being in a Welsh Cup semi final. It will be a great experience for the team – we’re all looking forward to it

Jess is in the back row, fourth from right. Caernarfon Town Under-16’s are having a great season

Will it be the biggest game of your career yet?

Jess: Yes, it will be the biggest game yet, and as a captain it will be a great honour to lead the team out

Do you feel you can beat Cardiff City?

Jess: It will be the toughest game yet, but if this season so far is anything to go by then yes I believe we can

How long have you been playing football?

Jess: Started playing for a team at the age of 6

What teams have you played for?

Jess: Started off at Bodedern boys team at the age of 6. Then moved to Llangefni boys team at the age of 8. Then Llangefni girls at the age of 9 where I won my very first North Wales Cup. And finally Caernarfon at the age of 11 up until now

What is your record this season – how many goals?

Jess: 29 goals in 12 games so far

What’s it like having an uncle like Marc Evans?

Jess: Inspirational, he and my uncle Paul got me started with football right at the beginning. I remember kicking my very first football at Gwalchmai football field with my uncles. A lot comment that I am very similar to him and his style of play

Do you watch him play?

Jess: I go occasionally to watch him play and he never disappoints with all the goals he is scoring for Bodedern this season

What do you think of his 46 goals this season!?

Jess: Awesome! But I think he has competition (me) haha!

Have you played any represenative football? Wales/NorthWales etc?

Jess: I attended North Wales regionals academy for a couple of years

What is special about the Caernarfon team you are in now?

Jess: The togetherness of the team, we are not only team mates but we are all also very good friends

What are your ambitions as a footballer?

Jess: I hope to progress in my football as far as I can, but no matter where I end up I will always love the game
