“A perfect fit” – how Steve Evans sees himself and Colwyn Bay FC

New Colwyn Bay manager Steve Evans sees himself and the club as “a perfect fit”.

The 42-year-old brings tremendous pedigree to Llanelian Road, having made 80 league appearances for Wrexham between 2006-09 and clocked up 87 outings in all competitions.

He also earned seven full caps for Wales from 2006-08, playing against Liechtenstein, Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland, San Marino, New Zealand, Bulgaria and Russia,

However, Evans also has vast experience of Welsh domestic football, having won five Cymru Premier titles as a player with The New Saints, where he was also assistant-manager, as well as having playing spells at Connah’s Quay Nomads and, this season, Caernarfon Town.

Now he is about to get his first real taste of tier two with Colwyn Bay, who currently lie sixth in the Cymru North.

“I think it’s a perfect fit and I’m looking forward to the challenge ahead,” Evans told the Colwyn Bay website.

“Getting back into management was always the plan and Caernarfon always knew that’s what I wanted to do and where I see my future.

“I’ve earned my stripes so to speak through the Scholarship at TNS and then as assistant manager and now I’ve got the opportunity as a manager.

“It’s a fantastic club with masses of potential. Everybody knows that it’s one of the biggest clubs in Wales.

“I can’t wait to get started and hopefully the fans will be allowed back soon and the team can play in front of them again.”

Caernarfon Town have wished their departing defender all the best in his new role.
