NORTH WALES COAST EAST LEAGUE REPORTS – DECEMBER 11

Division One

Rhyl All Stars 1 Betws-y-Coed 3

At the 20th attempt Betws-y-Coed are celebrating their very first win of the season.

The Conwy Valley side had lost all previous 19 matches, scoring just 8 goals and conceding 143.

Yet this plucky outfit have never given up, fulfilling all their fixtures and giving it their best week in, week out.

And on Saturday came the reward, a 3-1 victory at Rhyl All Stars.

After a goalless first half at the Rhyl Leisure Centre outdoor pitch, Betws took the lead five minutes into the second period through Luke Snape.

Snape struck again on 58, and although Macauley Lewis cut the deficit with a 70th minute penalty, Betws would not be denied, Daniel Spruce making it 3-1 after 88.

Huge credit, too, to Betws that despite losing 19 on the bounce, they took a squad of 16 on their not inconsiderable journey to Rhyl.

Betws squad

Sam Hawkins, Berwyn Hughes, Shawn Snape, Ellis Payne-Evans, Zack Shaw, Will Richardson, Michael Pollard, Matthew Latham, Luke Snape, Shaun Davies, Daniel Spruce. Subs: Dion Elliott, Ben Birch, N/A, Josh Lycett, Dominic Barlow.

CPD Cerrigydrudion 3 CPD Y Glannau 1

Table-toppers Cerrig took advantage of dropped points by high-flyers Llandudno Amateurs and Llanelwy Athletic to extend their summit lead to four points with victory over Y Glannau.

Cai Moore, Tomos Tryfan Jones and Tirion Griffiths were the home scorers, Harrison Bellis replying with a penalty for the visitors.

Llandudno Amateurs 2 Abergele 2

Dominic Holland’s late, late equaliser secured a point for Abergele and dealt a blow to the Amateurs hopes of a title challenge.

Greg Hilditch put Gele in front from the penalty spot on 25 minutes, but Mark Kelly levelled from the spot just before the break.

Chris Smyth put the Amateurs in front in the 73rd minute, then the hosts had Lewis Appleton sent off for two yellows before that dramatic Holland leveller.

Llanelwy Athletic 2 Rhyl Dragons 2

Mike Chapman’s 92nd minute equaliser rescued a draw for Athletic against a Dragons outfit which turned the form book around with a great effort at Gronant.

Joel Rowlands gave Sandy Malone’s men a seventh-minute lead, but the hosts had Gary Fazackerley dismissed on 26 for two yellows.

Nathan Griffiths soon got the Dragons back on terms and it stood 1-1 at the interval.

Just past the hour, Shaun Walsh put the visitors in front and a sensational result was on for Steve Taylor and Paul Maxwell’s side before the mighty Chapman hit back two minutes into added time.

Penrhyn Bay Dragons 2 CPD Henllan 1

Stan Farrell and Andrew Butterworth grabbed the goals which earned Penrhyn Bay the points at The Oval, Sam Davies responding for Henllan.

PREMIER DIVISION

Llanfairfechan Town 6 Bro Cernyw 1

This battle of the bottom two was expected to be quite close, especially with Bro Cernyw’s much-improved recent form, but Llanfairfechan ran away with it and lifted themselves off the basement at the expense of their opponents.

On 22 minutes the ‘telepathic twins’ combined to open the scoring. Picking up a loose ball from a corner, Elliot Croston fired across goal for Thomas Croston to hammer home from three yards

Ellis Jones was fouled in the box on 29 minutes, a penalty was awarded, and Ryan Dodd put away his sixth spot-kick of the season.

A third goal arrived before half time. Elliot Croston’s free kick struck the defensive wall, but the taker followed up to drill home the loose ball.

Llanfair were out of the blocks slowly for the second half, allowing Bro some attacking positions, but an interception from Curtis Murray at centre-back led to a blistering four-pass counter attack from which Dodd made it 4-0 on 50 minutes.

Dodd completed his hat-trick on 55 with a well-timed run and finish from an Elliot Croston through ball

Llanfair now rang the changes and lost Joel Jones to a needless red card.

Town made it six when substitute Cai Jones had a shot blocked by keeper Joe Edwards, but the rebound fell to fox in the box Elliot Croston, who fired into the empty net

Bro did pull a goal back when despite strong claims for offside Harry Kirkham was allowed to fire beyond keeper Ben Stubbs, who finished the match with a fantastic save.

MoM: Llanfairfechan – Thomas Croston; Bro Cernyw – John Gardner.

Llandudno Junction 5 Llandyrnog United 2

Jack Williams (2), Jack Nettleton, Robbie Gore and substitute Harry Parkes-Smith shared the goals in a fine win for the Railwaymen.

Garmon Hafal (pen) and Jamie Jones were the Dyrny marksmen.

Penmaenmawr Phoenix 2 Glan Conwy 1

Alfie Caldecott and Joe Williams provided the goals which sealed the spoils for Pen in a close encounter, David Sinkinson replying for Glan.

Rhuddlan Town 3 CPD Llannefydd 6

Llannefydd moved level on points with Prestatyn Sports at the summit after a goal-packed stormer at Rhuddlan.

Gwyndaf Pritchard side are second, just one behind Sports on goal difference. It is turning into a cracking title race.

Ciran Jones (2), Llion Morris, Luke Appleby, Jared Jones and Jack Davies provided the away goals.

Rhuddlan had taken an early lead through a Jared Jones own goal. Matty Roberts and another OG, this time from Elgan Roberts, made up the home total.

NWCFA Junior Cup

Cemaes Bay 3 Rhos United 2

First half goals from Adam Noble and Richard Beardmore put underdogs Rhos United from the North Wales Coast East League Division One in command at the break with a 2-1 lead.

Matty Reynolds replied for Cemaes, and he scored again in the second half, Sam Wiltshire also on target as the Anglesey side turned the tables to progress to the quarter-finals.
