CPD Betws-y-Coed say ‘bye’ for now – hope to see you back

CPD Betws-y-Coed have announced their resignation from the North Wales Coast East Football League.

It is hoped that the club will regroup and rejoin the league next season.

Betws had found the 2022-23 campaign a major struggle. They sat bottom of Division One with just a draw and nine defeats from 10 games and were on minus two points due to a deduction for not fulfilling a fixture.

They started off well with a 2-2 result against newcomers Bow, but a run of losses followed, many heavy.

In August, the league gave the club a two-week break from their fixture commitments in order to pursue new avenues of attracting players.

Last month Betws had put out an appeal on social media for a couple of new players to bolster their threadbare squad, but a 9-2 loss at Penrhyn Bay on December 10 turned out to be their final game for the time being.

BRIEF HISTORY

CPD Betws-y-Coed first joined the Vale of Conwy League in 1924-25.

They had numerous short spells in and out of the league over the decades and success was thin on the ground until they gained promotion to Section A after finishing runners-up in Section B in 1974-75.

Betws’ crowning moment came in 1999-2000 when they won the Vale of Conwy League title for the only time.

They then disbanded, briefly returning in Gwynedd League Division One, finishing bottom of a four-team table in 2003-04.

Betws were later members of the Vale of Clwyd and Conwy League, generally holding their own in Division One before the league ceased to be as part of pyramid restructuring in 2019-20.

They had since competed in the North Wales Coast West League Division One.
