Player Focus – Meilir Williams (Conwy Borough)

Meilir Williams (light blue) in action

Striker Meilir Williams is in good form up front for Conwy Borough in the tier 2 JD Cymru North this season.

The 25-year-old has always played at a good level. In 2018-19, he was Welsh Alliance Division One top-scorer with 28 goals for Penrhyndeudraeth. In total, he netted more than 100 goals in less than 90 matches with the Maes-y-Parc club.

One of his career highlights was winning the Mawddach Cup with Penrhyn in 2015-16.

The Cockles defeated Glantraeth 4-1 in the final, goals shared between Sion Bradley (2), now with Caernarfon Town, Meilir and legendary former Welsh Premier striker Paul Roberts.

Meilir has also represented Blaenau Ffestiniog Amateurs and Porthmadog, as well as current club Conwy, who signed him in summer 2020.

There’s been quite a few; Mawddach Cup final for Penrhyndeudraeth is always one I remember, beating Glantraeth 4-1. I also enjoyed a 4-2 win away to Llanrug in Blaenau Amateurs’ first game back in tier 3.

Favourite away ground

Scored quite a few at Llandudno’s ground over the years against different sides. Good set up at Colwyn Bay as well.

Other sporting achievements

Have never really taken to any other sport to compete at a high level.

How do you feel Conwy Borough have performed so far this season?

Quite happy with how we have performed, we’ve had a few good results. But we’re a young side and I still feel there’s more to come from us as a group.

Try and play for as long as possible and at the highest level possible.
