Happy (belated) birthday to Llandudno’s Jasmin Dutton – a true North Wales great

She has played alongside a host of Welsh football greats in her outstanding career.

With such a hugely impressive CV, Jasmin Dutton has to rank as one of North Wales’ all-time finest players.

Born on December 2, 1992, the versatile performer from Kinmel Bay celebrated her 29th birthday yesterday.

She is currently starring for Llandudno in the tier 2 Genero Adran North League, occupying a holding role just in front of the back-four or central midfield.

Tudno manager Sarah Colville is delighted to have Jasmin on board, not just for her ability on the ball but also for guiding and inspiring the younger players in the squad.

Daughter of Suzann and Trevor Dutton, Jasmin was with Tranmere Rovers Ladies from 2000-11 and represented the Welsh national teams between 2003-11.

She played for the under-15 and U-16 sides and debuted for the Wales U-17 squad in 2006, earning eight caps.

Jasmin appeared 22 times from 2007-11 for the Wales Under-19 team while scoring six goals and being appointed team captain.

She then represented the Welsh senior side from 2009-11, winning eight caps.

Jasmin featured in a FIFA Women’s World Cup Qualifier against Azerbaijan in August 2010 and scored in a 15-0 victory.

Also on the scoresheet that day were Helen Lander (Ward), who netted six, hat-trick hero Gwennan Harries, plus Jess Fishlock, Sophie Ingle and Michelle Green – all now recognised greats of the women’s game in Wales.

In a friendly against Bulgaria a few days after the Azerbaijan rout, Jasmin found the net again in an 8-1 triumph.

Former Deeside College sporting excellence scholarship student Jasmin was also voted Welsh Girl Player of the Year in 2009.

An ex-pupil of Ysgol Emrys ap Iwan, Abergele, she moved to America to further her football career in 2011.

She played for East Tennessee State University for four years and then coached in North Carolina for the next two as the assistant women’s soccer coach at Lenoir-Rhyne University.

Majoring in physical education from ETSU, she was also a star defender for their soccer team between 2011-14.

Jasmin returned to Welsh football with Llandudno in 2018-19 and the following season joined ambitious new side Connah’s Quay Nomads.

She was a key player in a Nomads outfit which finished runners-up and went unbeaten in a shortened season in North Wales League Division Two.

Nomads also reached the Welsh Cup semi-finals, knocking out Welsh Premier Port Talbot along the way, but they never got to play Swansea City in the last four due to Covid.

With last season cancelled due to the worldwide pandemic, Jasmin rejoined Llandudno for the 2021-22 campaign and is playing superbly.
