Happy birthday to CPDM Bangor 1876 midfielder Lisa Thomas

One of the most versatile players on the North Wales women’s football scene celebrates a birthday today.

Born on November 18, 1997, Lisa Thomas currently plays for CPDM Bangor 1876 in the North Wales Women’s League.

The 24-year-old can operate up front, right wing, defence – just about anywhere she is needed. Her pace, crossing and tackling strength are among her best assets.

Lisa first made her mark as a youngster in CPDM Bethel’s girl sides, leading to inevitable promotion to the senior team.

In 2016-17, she was in the Bethel line-up which took on Cardiff City FC Women in the quarter-finals of the Welsh Cup.

Although the North Wales side lost 4-2, a 19-year-old Lisa and her team-mates put up a brilliant effort. Alaw Huws and Katie Midwinter scored for the underdogs.

From her time with Bethel, Lisa also remembers scoring a goal from halfway and winning a cup final in the closing minutes.

In 2018-19, Lisa signed for newly-formed Mountain Rangers, recording the team’s first-ever goal in a 9-1 loss to Wrexham on September 16, 2018,

She scored a very special goal in Rangers’ first-ever victory – a 4-1 success at Penrhyn Bay in October 2018.

Lisa cut in from the left wing 25 yards from goal and dispatched a rocket left foot shot which whistled past the keeper.

Another memorable goal for Lisa came in a tremendous 3-2 win over Pwllheli in a North Wales Supplementary Cup group game in March 2019.

She finished top-scorer for the Rhosgadfan side at the end of their debut season with eight goals.

The 2019-20 season started really promisingly for Mountain Rangers as they won their first game against Holywell 14-1 and Lisa scored a hat-trick, team-mate Katie Bowe netting seven.

Lisa is now with Bangor 1876

Rangers led the Division Two table for a short time, but soon endless postponements caused mainly through waterlogged pitches, as well being unable to raise a team on occasion took over before the season finished prematurely in March 2020 due to coronavirus.

Lisa scored seven goals in that much-interrupted season for Rangers, bringing her total for the team to 15 over two campaigns (making her probably the team’s all-time highest goalscorer – Katie Bowe netted 11 in 2019-20, but did not represent the side the season before).

The 2020-21 season was cancelled completely because of Covid-19 and with Mountain Rangers long disbanded, Lisa signed for Bangor 1876 this term.

She has helped 1876 hit top spot in the North Wales Women’s League.

Lisa’s very complimentary profile on the club website reads: “Lisa has great ambitions as a player and this shows in her work rate. A quick winger with great skill and finish, she is a great threat to opposing teams. Lisa has great stamina and a fantastic work rate, she brings a very positive attitude to the team. Lisa brings a bag of experience and wealth and is definitely a role model to the younger generation at the club.”

Penblwydd hapus Lisa Thomas – one of the best!
