Phenomenal goal scorer ASA THOMAS reached another major landmark in his career at the weekend.
The 30-year-old Holyhead man netted his 550TH SENIOR GOAL in Bodedern Athletic’s 3-1 victory at Nefyn United in the North Wales Coast League West Premier Division.
That made it 26 goals for the current season from the islander, who began the 2021-22 campaign on 524.
Asa is in just his 14th season as a senior player.
It is not known officially where he stands in the all-time North Wales adult football goal scorers table as no such bonafide list exists.
However, it is firmly established that former Bro Cernyw and Llanrwst United striker Euryn Williams netted 683 career goals. He helped form Cernyw in 1990 and notched most of his goals with them before retiring in 2006.
The legendary Tommy Welsh (1929-2019) hit 631, most of them for Holyhead Town in the halcyon days of North Wales coast football in the 1950’s and 60’s.
And Rhyl great Don Spendlove (1921-2011) previously held the coast record of 629 goals for the Lilywhites, who he represented mainly in the 1940’s and 50’s before retiring in 1961.
At the age of just 30, Asa Thomas has already amassed 550 goals.
His most famous season was 2010-11, when he piled up 112 goals in 47 appearances across all competitions for a quadruple-winning Trearddur Bay United side.
One can only wonder how many he may score by the time he hangs up his boots, but considering his uncle Jackie Welsh, son of the late Tommy, played well into his 50’s, Asa could well be banging them in for some time yet.
