Exciting news!

Llangefni’s women will play their first-ever competitive league match at a prestigious venue this weekend.

The newly-formed team will take on Welshpool at Llangefni Town’s home ground Cae Bob Parry on Sunday, kick-off 2 pm.

The girls would love a good crowd to cheer them on for what is their North Wales Women’s Football League debut.

Cefni restarted a women’s team this year after a long absence.

As the summer has progressed, results have improved and in their last two games they have beaten Denbigh Town 6-3 and Llanfairfechan 3-0.

Manager Dan Gregg said: “This is so exciting for our ladies and they can’t wait! Make sure to come down to support us.”

Welshpool, also newcomers to the league, lost their first game 2-0 at home to Amlwch Town last weekend, but performed well, especially in the first half. The Powys side should provide a good test for Cefni.

Elsewhere in the North Wales League this Sunday, Amlwch Town and Trearddur Bay, who both won their opening games, will meet at Lon Bach, 2 pm start.

This should be a great contest between two teams who will know each other well.

Trearddur players Ashleigh Jones and Gail Paterson-Manning were both at Amlwch in the 2019-20 season, when Town won the Division Two title.

CPDM Bangor 1876, who got off to a flyer with a 6-2 result at NFA, are home to Llanystumdwy, who did not play on the opening weekend.

Llanystumdwy are a new side with a few experienced players combined with a number of promising newcomers.

Sunday’s game will be played at Plas Ffrancon, Bethesda, 2 pm kick-off.

CPD Merched Tref Caernarfon will be hoping for better luck on the player availability front when they host Northop Hall, who lost narrowly 1-0 to CPD Y Rhyl 1879 in their first match. The Cofis had just nine players for their first day 7-1 loss at Trearddur Bay due to Covid.

The scheduled CPD Y Rhyl 1879 v NFA game has been cancelled, while Holywell have a free date.

GENERO ADRAN LEAGUE CUP

Two teams expected to perform well in the Genero Adran League this season meet in the opening round of games in the League Cup on Sunday.

Llandudno, who kicked off their league campaign with a 4-1 success at Llanfair United, will host Bethel, impressive 5-1 winners at Airbus first time out.

This tie will see some players up against their old clubs, with Bethel’s Mari Gibbard, Fflur Williams and Shona Roberts all former Maesdu Park stars.

Meanwhile, Llandudno’s Jordanne Greenough also had a short stint with Bethel in 2019-20.

Denbigh Town and Pwllheli will get an immediate opportunity to wipe out painful memories from the opening day.

Last Sunday in the league, Denbigh were beaten 14-1 at Connah’s Quay Nomads, while Pwllheli went down 6-0 at Wrexham.

Denbigh travel to face the same opponents in the League Cup this Sunday, while Pwllheli are home to Wrexham.

Airbus will host Llanfair United in a game where both sides will aim to put right losing starts in the league last weekend.
