Concession of a late equaliser followed by penalty heartache combined to send Brickfield crashing out of the Ardal Northern Cup as Nantlle Vale returned to Gwynedd victorious.

The first chance fell to Brickie, winger Lewis Parry playing in Owen Jones, who shot straight at keeper Owain Roberts.

Around the mid-point of the half Brickfield tried to impose themselves, Aaron White creating space before unleashing a powerful effort which Roberts kept out.

Nantlle rallied, forcing a couple of good stops from Rangers keeper Rhys Stanhope before the half finished with the score still 0-0.

The second half began tightly. until a mistake from Stanhope saw Ashley Owen having a shot on goal with no keeper to beat, but Alex De Rosa was there to clear off the line.

On 59 minutes Brickfield took the lead. Andy Vale received the ball just in his own half, ran through the defence, evading tackles throughout, and scored with a low shot.

After this, Nantlle were forced to break forward to try and get themselves back in the tie.

Brickfield remained a danger and Jardel Teixeira hit the post before bringing the best out of keeper Roberts.

Deep into injury time, Nantlle pushed everyone forward and scrambled a 95th minute equaliser through Owen.

No extra time so straight to penalties, which saw Nantlle score three of their first four, and Brickie only one to the delight of the visitors.

There was no mystery or twists in the tale at Foxen Manor – a ground which sounds like a location from detective series Randall and Hopkirk – as Rhos Aelwyd comfortably cracked the case of how to beat Four Crosses.

Tom Smith, James Rumsey and a James Haynes double made it 4-0 at half time.

End of part one and the contest was pretty much over.

Luke Jones did pull one back for the hosts in the 55th minute, but Haynes completed his hat-trick before Ed Neale made it six.

St Asaph City 1 (Booker 71)
Rhydymwyn 0

At the ninth attempt St Asaph claimed their first win of the season in any competition.

Andy Booker’s 71st minute goal was enough to clinch victory for Saints, who had gained their first Ardal North West points in a 1-1 draw with Rhydymwyn – also at home – last month.

Bad day at the office for Penycae, who lost to a Carno outfit which had won just once all season.

Joe Morris, sub Oliver Lewis and Iwan Jerman grabbed the goals that mattered for the Powys hosts, Zac Davies and Thomas Edwards responding.
