All hail Llangefni Town Ladies – winners today for the first time since the team reformed.
The tier 3 Anglesey side travelled to tier 2 Genero Adran North team Denbigh with only two substitutes and a depleted squad due to injuries, but that did not stop them recording their first victory.
And star of the show was four-goal hero Jen Cox.
The match started as it would go on, with a fantastic counter attacking goal by Cox, using her pace and power well to slot past the Denbigh goalkeeper.
The hosts equalised, but Llangefni, learning from how much they have suffered several defeats over the last few months, did not let it affect them.
Cox, in fabulous form in front of goal over the summer, got her second from another counter through ball.
Tash Jones then made it 3-1 with a lovely controlled strike from distance wrong-footing the keeper.
Jones turned provider with a sublime assist to ensure “Cox in the Box” grabbed her hat-trick to make it 4-1 to the Anglesey aces.
Denbigh then clawed one back, before two minutes later a not finished yet Cox made it 5-2.
The hosts scored again, but then to finish the game, Hannah Owen, after an industrious game on the right wing, tapped home to make the final score 6-3 to Cefni.
Manager Dan Gregg said: “The effort and determination to learn in training really showed here today. Against tough tier 2 opposition (to which the girls have never shied away from this season), with a depleted squad they used every single drop of the bond they’ve created during the hard times this pre season.”
Llangefni Town have a free date on the first Sunday of the 2021-22 season, but kick off their campaign on September 12 at home to Welshpool Town in the 11-team North Wales Women’s League.
